    LUTHER CARPENTER was born September 15, 1837, on the same farm where he now resides. His father, Jonathan T. Carpenter, was born August 6, 1809, in the State of Virginia. At the age of sixteen years he removed to Kentucky and located in Warren County, on the same farm now occupied by our subject, in a house which was built by John F. Carpenter and in which the fourth generation of his family now resides. John F. Carpenter was also a native of Virginia, where he was born about 1785, and was of English descent. Jonathan Carpenter married, about 1830, Elizabeth, daughter of Lewis Dunn. Their offspring were Mary (Claypool), Elizabeth (Claypool), Sally (Alexander) and Ella (Ferguson).

    John F. and Elizabeth Carpenter came to Warren County, Kentucky from Washington County, Virginia, which is in the western part of Virginia, and built a home in 1820 about ten miles from Bowling Green on the Glasgow Road.
