    Notes:

    Many sources give her name as Victoria Rementoria Greet Rebecca Ann Jan Tanner, but her death certificate has it as Virginia, and the census records have her as Jenny. Where did this convoluted name come from? Thanks to Randy Murphey at rcmurphey@aol.com for putting me on the right path.

    Was her maiden name Tanner or Vipperman? She was the informant on the death certificate for her son Edgar L. Hypes. She gives her maiden name as Virginia Tanner.

    George W. Tanner, who married Maggie Hypes, was her brother. Maggie was the sister of Virginia's husband, William W. Hypes.

    However on Virginia's death certificate, the informant, Ruby Hypes Cole, got her grandparent's names reversed, as James Vipperman, instead of James Tanner, and Mary Tanner, instead of Mary Vipperman. But her name is listed as Virginia Tanner Hypes, which would be correct with a married woman using her maiden name as her middle name.

    Resident Craig Co. VA, Enlisted White Sulphur Springs, VA with his brother Jacob served in the Co. C., 189th Militia until integrated into 22nd VA Infantry on May 1, 1862.

    Fought at Giles Court House, Lewisburg, Kanawha Valley Campaign, Beverely,White Sulphur Springs, Droop Mountain, Sweet Springs, New Market, Cold Harbor,Lynchburg, Monocacy, Kernstown, and Winchester.

    Captured at the third battle of Winchester (Battle of Opequon) September 18, 1864 Arrived Point Lookout POW Camp September 23, 1864 and took oath May 1865.
    Returned to southwest Virginia, died July 23, 1935.
