8. | George Kornegay was born 1701, Upper Palatinate, Rhine River, Germany (son of Johannes Georg Kornegay); died 1773, Craven Co. NC. Notes:

George Kornegay was a German/Swiss Paltine/Palatinate. He Came as a young boy with the rest of his family and the Baron De Graffenreid to Craven Co., NC., in 1709. The party founded Newbern in Craven Co. Most of the colony of Palatines were massacred by the Tuscarosa Indians in 1711; including all of the rest of Georg\'s family. He was captured by the Tuscarosas. He was about nine years old at the time.
George recieved several Grants in Craven Co. and Duplin Co. between 1736 and 1756. He owned several thousands of acres in Craven, Dobbs (present day Wayne and Lenoir Counties), Duplin and Jones Counties. This included:
land in Alum Springs, land on Falling Creek in Dobbs Co., land on Beaverdam and Cape Fear in Duplin Co.
In 1754-1755 George was in the Duplin Co. Foot Militia.
He is Probably buried at the Kornegay Old Burying Ground on his land at Kornegay\'s Bridge on the Northeast of Cape Fear River in Duplin Co. His memorial stone is now at Red Hill in Wayne Co.
George\'s will was probated in 1773, Craven Co., NC (page 205).
