  1. 1.  Sarah Shelby was born 08 Oct 1785, Stanford, Lincoln Co. KY; died 17 Oct 1846, Danville, Boyle Co. KY; was buried , McDowell Park, Danville, Boyle Co. KY.

    Notes:

    She was the daughter of Isaac Shelby, who was twice governor of KY, and was a a soldier in Lord Dunmore's War, the Revolutionary War, and the War of 1812. While governor, he personally led the Kentucky militia in the Battle of the Thames, an action that was rewarded with a Congressional Gold Medal.

    Sarah was the daughter of Governor Isaac Shelby and Susannah Hart. She married Dr. Ephraim McDowell in 1802 and they were the parents of nine children with only five living to adulthood.

    Sarah and Ephraim were both originally buried in the Shelby Family Burying Ground in Lincoln County, Kentucky. Their remains were reinterred in 1879 in McDowell Park, which was created and dedicated in Dr. McDowell's honor by the Kentucky Medical Society on December 13th and 14th, 1879.
