He was the husband of the late Lucy Marie Perry Christian, who passed away in 1993. Born on Feb. 2, 1918, in Blackey, Va., he was the son of the late Perry and Mary Blankenship Christian. He was a member of the Christian Life Assembly of God in Stroudsburg. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army as a military policeman. He served in the European Theater and North Africa. He worked at a sawmill in Avondale, W.Va., as a laborer from 1936 to 1941, then worked for the Island Creek Coal Company as a coal miner for 18 years. He relocated his family to Pennsylvania in 1965, where he then worked at Cramers Home Center in East Stroudsburg for 27 years, retiring in 1992. He enjoyed golfing, hunting and fishing but, most of all, loved spending time with his family. He was a kind and loving father and grandfather, and will be sadly missed by everyone who knew him. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Taylor, Clarence and Berlin Christian. He is survived by three daughters, Patricia A. Sexton of East Stroudsburg, Mary Margaret Cereghino and her husband, Robert, of Stroudsburg, and Judith G. Stout and her husband, John, of Stroudsburg; a son, Lonnie S. Christian Sr. and his wife, Rebecca, of East Stroudsburg; a sister, Celia McCoy of Dade City, Fla.; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. on Monday, July 17, at the Lanterman and Allen Funeral Home, 27 Washington St., East Stroudsburg. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., on Tuesday, July 18, at the funeral home. Burial will follow at the Prospect Cemetery in East Stroudsburg. He died in the Malmedy-Stavelot area as the Allies pushed Germany out of occupied territory on the way to Berlin to end the war in Europe that year.
