A former pastor of the Kings Prairie Union church, conducted funeral services Friday afternoon, Dec. 3rd. Burial was in the Spring River Cemetery near Verona. The Monett Times gave the following sketch concerning her: Hattie McQueen was born January 6, 1881 at Verona, Mo. She was married in 1901 to Marion Tate. One son, John D. Tate, was born to them. Mr. Tate died in 1932. Mr. and Mrs. Tate reared a foster son, Raymond Phariss, who also lives on Kings Prairie. Two months ago Mrs. Tate took another boy, Pierce Lawless, from the Christian orphanage and he is now a member of the family. Besides her son and foster sons, Mrs. Tate is survived by her mother, Mrs. Jennie McQueen of Verona, a sister Mrs. Georgia Wilks who lives with her mother; and three brothers, John McQueen of Little Rock, Ark., George L. McQueen of Grand Junction, Colo., and Ray McQueen of Anchorage, Alaska. Mrs. Tate had been a member of the church since she joined the Christian church at Verona when she was 16 years old. She had been a member of the Kings Prairie Union church since coming to that community to live. She was a zealous in church work and was one of the members instrumental in making extensive improvements at the church which have just been completed. She was a former resident of Bluefield, W.Va. and Welch, W.Va. The funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 6, 2010 at Memorial Funeral Directory, Princeton, W.Va., with the Reverend Howard Finkel officiating. Internment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton, W.Va. The family will receive friends at the funeral home prior to the service, beginning at 11:00 a.m. Born in Hartwell, W.Va. on April 8, 1919, Hazel was the daughter of Claude Creed and Meda Beavers Creed. A graduate of Big Creek High School, she lived and worked in McDowell County most of her life. She and her husband, the late McGinnis E. Hatfield, Sr., were members of the First Baptist Church of Welch, and later the First Baptist Church of Bluefield. They were residents of Greensboro, N.C. since 2002. Hazel is survived by a daughter, Patricia Dotson of Virginia Beach, Va.; two sons, McGinnis E. Hatfield, Jr. and wife Melissa of Bluefield, W.Va., and Richard W. Hatfield and wife Nancy of Greensboro, N.C.; eight grandchildren, Robin Craft, Rhonda Killmon, Renee Deyoe, Matthew E. Hatfield, Janie Hatfield, Richard Waitman Hatfield, Emily Hatfield and Jana Hatfield; and eight great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Matt Hatfield, Richard Waitman Hatfield, Jacob Killmon, Jason Killmon, Brian Richardson and Jordon Craft. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you make donations to the animal shelter in your area. She was born in Glen Alum, West Virginia, to John Dee and Orba Mae Bandy. The oldest of six children, she was a feisty little girl who learned how to hold her own with five rowdy brothers, eventually outliving them all. A lifelong Christian, she came to know the Lord as a very young girl. She was always ready with a testimony of her love for Him. While possessing many domestic talents, she often said the one accomplishment she was most proud of was God giving her the ability to care for her disabled daughter for over forty years - well into old age. As it says in Psalms 92, "They shall still bring forth fruit in old age." Her loved ones are greatly saddened by her passing, but are comforted by the hope of meeting once again when Christ returns. Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Woodrow Fields, and son, Jackie Fields. She is survived by her three daughters, Sherry Malone of Charleston, West Virginia, Jean Kieser (Larry) of Vallejo, and Brenda Fields, also of Vallejo; six grandchildren, Marsha, Deann, Tedd Lee, Tanya, Ginger and Alexandra; six great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Henry F. Altizer, age 91, of Tazewell, Va., died Friday, November 5, 2010 at Bluefield Regional Medical Center in Bluefield, W.Va. Born February 13, 1919 at Cliffield, Va., he was a son of the late George Elbert Altizer and Bertie Patton Altizer. He was a member of the Tazewell Christian Church and the Christian Men's Fellowship. Mr. Altizer was a U.S. Army Air Force Veteran of World War II and was a life member of the Barns Beavers VFW Post # 7136 of Tazewell, Va. He was a retired coal miner and member of the UMWA Local # 2322 at Amonate. He also worked for a time at the Pocahontas Shop. He was a former member of the North Tazewell Lions Club and the Tazewell Moose Lodge. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Ruth Witt, Ruby Suiter, Ella Lambert, and Helen Lockhart; two brothers, Hoyt Altizer and Charles Altizer. He is survived by his wife, Edith Griffin Altizer; two sons, David Altizer and wife, Lori of Fort Wayne, Ind. and Eddie Altizer and wife, Sharon of Mechanicsville, Va.; two sisters, Irene Nichols of Bluefield, W.Va. and Jean Strickland of Suffolk, Va.; six grandchildren, Sarah Altizer, Matthew Altizer, Chuck Altizer, Lonnie Altizer, Stephen Altizer, and James Henry Altizer; three great-grandchildren, Grayson Altizer, Bailey Altizer, and Xavier Altizer; numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Monday, November 8, 2010 at the Tazewell Christian Church in Tazewell, Va. with the Reverend Michael Stump officiating. Burial will follow at Grandview Memory Gardens in Bluefield, Va. where military graveside rites will be conducted by members of the Barns Beavers VFW Post # 7136 of Tazewell, Va.
