Eugene ?Gene? Wilson Hooker, 93, of Colcord, passed away Thursday, Oct. 24, 2008, at home. Born on May 2, 1915, at McCalpen, he was the son of the late Albert Hooker and Isabell Hooker Brooks. Gene was a member of Colcord Presbyterian Church. He served in the U.S. Army in Japan in the occupational Army after World War II and was honorably discharged in 1946. He was retired from the Pittson Coal Company of Kentucky where he was store manager. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Irene Deck Hooker, and a brother, Kyle Hooker. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 23 years, Lillian Lowe Hooker of Colcord; two sons, Lee Hooker of Florida and Eugene ?Bill? Born March 2, 1912 in Tazewell County, she was a daughter of the late Robert Clinton Asbury and Lilly Elizabeth Kinder Asbury. She was a member of the Rosemont Presbyterian Church in Bristol, TN, and was a member of the Bristol Garden Club. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, W.G. ?Bill? Larimer; one son, Joseph Denton Larimer; and six brothers, Irvin, Robert, Victor, Simon, Austin and Walter Asbury. Survivors: husband, John P. Vermillion; son, William Oliver Larimer and wife, Saipin, of Pass Christian, MS; sisters, Georgia Harless of Bluefield, WV, Dosha Hicks of Radford; grandchildren, Sandra Stewart, Jeannie Sexton, Jacqueline Espinoza and Samantha Samson; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews, including Mary Spurgeon of North Tazewell.
