A memorial service is planned for 10 a.m. Friday in Greensboro at Friends Home at Guilford. A graveside service is planned for 5 p.m. Friday at the Ahoskie Cemetery in Ahoskie. Born on Aug. 6, 1906, in Greensboro, she delighted in living life as fully as possible. She was very active in the PTA, holding state offices. Through her efforts, the first PTA on the Outer Banks at Ocracoke was started. She was an enthusiastic duplicate bridge player, attaining life master status and went on several tournament cruises with Charles Goren. In her mid-years, she became an avid golfer, was Club Ladies Champion for several years and scored a total of three holes-in-one. After her children went off to college, she returned to school and graduated with a bachelors degree from Chowan Community College when in her 60s. She, like her mother, traveled as often as possible, both in Europe, Africa and the Middle East. After her husband, William died, she led tours of Israel and the Biblical lands for several years. She also went on one of the first ecotours ever offered to Antarctica with Lynblad Expeditions, the oldest person on board. She spent several years in Florida and enjoyed serving as a volunteer at various parks and historical sites. A particular favorite was her volunteer work at the home site of author Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings She had three sons, all Eagle Scouts, Robert Samuel Bryan, William Melton Bryan and Floyd Talmadge Bryan; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. C., has assumed the directorship of the local USD-Travelers Aid here. R. Clarence Williams, chairman of the operating committee of the Travelers' Aid Board, announced yesterday. Miss Kirk succeeds Miss Mable Thomas, director here for the past two and one-half years, who left this week to accept employment with the International Business Machine Company. A fellow worker with Miss Thomas in Montgomery several years ago, Miss Kirk has been with Travelers' Aid since early in 1942. As a graduate of Birmingham-Southern she began her welfare work in Birmingham where she served three years with the Jefferson County Child Welfare Department and three years with social welfare work. Miss Kirk was a case worker In Montgomery when Miss Thomas entered the organization as a volunteer. The new director, whose home is in Birmingham, is a graduate of Tulane School of Social Work, a member of the Methodist Church, and a member of Alpha Omega Pi sorority. She is also a member of the American Association of Social Workers. Serving as director of the Aid office in Spartanburg since October, 1945, Miss Kirk says she already likes Anniston, and "especially the fine organization of my new office." Miss Kirk will be assisted here by Miss Ann Rhoades and Miss Ann Hewett, case workers, and Grace Hawkins, Negro case worker. Although the peak of the Aid work here has been passed, Miss Kirk expects a real need for continued service to exist for some time to come, and the office here will be maintained as long as there is need, she said. Advices stated that rescuers were unable to reach the victims until the home had burned completely down and nothing was left of the bodies but the charred bones. Sneed was said to have built up a fire shortly before daylight and went back to bed, dropping off to sleep. When he awoke the house had so nearly burned down that he had time only to snatch up one of the little children, a boy, and flee with him. It was thought that the building caught from a defective flue. Sneed and his family removed to Modoc from Camp Creek.
