He was born in Buchanan County Virginia and was a son of the late Sylvester and Amanda Osborn Stilwell. He was a retired coal operator for the Bear Ridge Coal Company of Raven Virginia. He had been a resident of the Raven Virginia and Steelesburg area most of his life moving to Cedar Bluff 21 years ago. He was a member of the Fork Ridge Pentecostal Holiness Church. He was preceded in death by one daughter--Anne Stilwell Robinson; sister Brassie Stilwell Webb; and brother--Squire Stilwell. Survivors are his wife Mattie Mae Absher Stilwell; daughters Lovell Stilwell Smith and husband Jack of Clarksburg Maryland and Ruth Stilwell Brewster and husband James L. of Tazewell Virginia; sisters Maymie Stilwell Messick and husband T.H. of Raven Virginia and Macie Stilwell Horton of Raven Virginia; brother Artemous Stilwell of Cedar Bluff Virginia; half-sisters--Rosie Osborn Davis, Magie Osborn Breedlove of Tazwell Virginia and Oma Osborn of Raven Virginia; and seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. The funeral will be at two Thursday at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands Virginia with the Rev. Jessie Miller, Rev.Claudie Throgmartin and Rev. Ralph Hager officiating.
