He lived his lifetime in the country. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Louise G. Sterrett, Rockbridge Baths; one daughter, Mrs. E.I. Campbell, Jr., Glasgow; two sons, W.M. Sterrett, Richmond; and John R. Sterrett, Buena Vista. Five sisters, Mrs. S.F. Patterson, Sr., Mrs. J.W. Buchanan, both of Brownsburg; Mrs. G.F. Parramore, Cheriton, Virginia; Mrs. J.J. Swecker, Bluegrass, Virginia; and Mrs. Noel Duff, Grand Junction, Colorado. Also surviving are three grandsons and three granddaughters. Funeral services were conducted at the Bethesda Presbyterian Church on March 29, 1959 at 4:00 p.m. with interment in the church cemetery. The officiating clergyman was the Rev. Don L. Bartley. Mr. Sterrett was a member and deacon of the Bethesda Presbyterian Church of Rockbridge Baths, a member of the Modern Woodmen of America, former member of the Draft Board, member of Rockbridge County School Board for nine years, charter member of the Rockbridge Baths Ruritan Club, long time member of the Brownsburg Telephone Exchange, Assistant Postmaster of Rockbridge Baths, owner of Anderson's store from 1949-1952, and a farmer of considerable land in the community. Among those attending the funeral from a distance were Dr. C.F. Irons and his brother Ben Irons of Greenville, North Caroline; Mrs. J.A. Patterson, Martinsburg, W.Va.; Mrs. Wallace Lynn, Occaquan, Virginia; Mr. and Mrs. J.J. Swecker, their daughter Mary Judy, and Mr. and Mrs. George Swecker, Blue Grass, Virginia; Mr. and Mrs. William Swecker, Wakefield, Virginia; Mrs. James Crown, Mrs. Willson Sterrett and son, Staunton; Mr. Frank Davidson, Mr. and Mrs. Weller Head, Charlottesville; Mr. Rober Swecker, Harrisonburg; Mr. James Swecker, Frederick, Maryland; Mr. and Mrs. Robert Abbot, Mrs. John Slaven, Miss Reid Parramore, Wilmington, Delaware; Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Adams and sons, Portsmouth, Virginia, Mr. and Mrs. R.D.
