He was employed by the Chesapeake and Ohio Railway in bridge construction work at Louisa, Ky. and underwent about two months ago, in the Chesapeake and Ohio Hospital at Huntington, W.Va., an operation on the cartilage of the knee. A week ago he was brought to Richmond. The funeral services will take place this afternoon at 4:30 o'clock in the chapel of Union Theological Seminary, and will be conducted by Rev. Thomas C. Johnson, D.D. of the Seminary faculty, assisted by Rev. R.C. Stribling, D.D. of Petersburg. The burial will be in Hollywood. Mr. Sterrett is survived by his wife, who was Miss. Frances Houston, of Buchanan, Va.; also by his mother, Mrs. Laura Sterrett, the matron at Union Theological Seminary, and three sisters, Misses. Isabel and Alice Sterrett of Ginter Park, and Mrs. Joseph B. Bailey of Emporia, and four brothers Frank and Edwin Sterrett of Richmond, and Mac and Thornton Sterrett of Lexington. The service was conducted by the Rev. A. E. Johnson of the Presbyterian Church, assisted by the Rev., J. H. Light of the Methodist Church. For the past six years he had been principal of the Monterey High School. Prior to that he was mathematics instructor at Staunton Military Academy. He is survived by his wife, formerly Miss. Martha Jones, sister of State Treasurer Edwin B. Jones; two sons, Douglas and Robert, Jr. of Monterey; two brothers, S. Tate Sterrett, Staunton, and Felix F. MO; 16 Nov 1950 Susan D. Fugate Susan D., daughter of Wm. G. and Drucilla McConnell, was born July 25, 1858, in Scott County, Virginia, and on October 31, 1950, she peacefully departed this life at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. H, Rimel. She had reached the advanced age of 92 years, three months and six days. On November 30. 1882, she was united in marriage to Thomas E. Fugate, of Russell County, Virginia. To this union seven children were born, namely, William H., Drucilla J., and Martha L., who died in early childhood. Those left to mourn her departure are Mrs. Lucy Rimel, Elk Creek; Thomas K. Fugate, Meadville, Mo.; James C. Fugate, address unknown, and Frances C. Fugate, Nevada, Mo.; also 14 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, one sister-in law, several nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Mrs. Fugate was preceded in death by her husband February 13, 1920. She was converted at an early age and united with the Methodist Church in Nickelsville, Va., transferring her membership to Steely's Chapel Methodist Church at Elk Creek, Mo., August 31, 1896, and remained steadfast, loyal and true to this faith. She attended services when possible until about 2 1/2 years ago when she was no longer able to go. She was a kind, loving mother, grandmother and neighbor, always ready to help care for the sick or anyone in need of help. No night was too cold or too dark for her, if someone called for her assistance. After the death of her husband she and her daughter, Frances, lived together for several years. She then gave up her home and has lived with her son, T. K. Fugate, and her daughter, Lucy Rimel. For almost two years she has been with Mrs. Rimel, who has been her constant companion and who has given her time and strength to give her aged mother the best care and attention possible. "Grandma" will be greatly missed in the home and by her many friends. Her life was not always sunshine and happiness. She has experienced griefs and heartaches but did not falter or lose faith in her Master, to whom she always went for comfort and strength. She willingly carried her cross and patiently bore her burdens. Her greatest desire was to hear her Master's call and had so often remarked that she was ready and waiting to go. So a noble and useful life has come to a close. Funeral services were held at Steeley's Chapel Church November 3, 1950, conducted by Rev. Payton Smyer, in the presence of a large gathering of friends. Beautiful flowers showed the high esteem in which she was held. Songs that were rendered by the choir were "Jesus, Saviour, Pilot Me," and "Where We'll Never Grow Old." Special, "How Beautiful Heaven Must Be," by Wayne Grisham, accompanied by Mrs. Opal McKinney. These three songs were favorites of Mrs. Fugate. Burial was in the Price cemetery where her husband and two children rest, and was under the direction of the Elliott Funeral Home.
