23401	OBITUARY News-Gazette, Lexington,Virginia; 10 August 1960 John Kinnear Davidson, 71, of 611 Stonewall Street, Lexington, died suddenly at his home August 3. He was born in Rockbridge County, a son of the late Sarah Brown and William E. Davidson. Mr. Davidson was a member of the Lexington Presbyterian Church and he was one of the oldest members of the City Lodge No. 67 A.F. & A.M. Mr. Davidson was the first manager of the Lexington "ABC" store which opened in 1934. He resigned in April of 1959 just a short time before completing 25 years in this position. He was assisted by Charles Agor and Elsworth Leech. Surviving are his wife; Mrs. Alice Sterrett Davidson, Lexington, one daughter; Mrs. Cornella D. Kraft, Bay Shore, N.Y.; three sons: William C. Davidson; Orland Park, Ill., John K. Davidson Jr., Roanoke, Frank S. Davidson, Johnson City, N.Y. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren. 23402	OBITUARY News-Gazette, Lexington,Virginia; 31 October 1984 John Kinnear Davidson of Hampton died on Friday in the veterans hospital in Hampton. He was 58. Mr. Davidson was married to Nancy Ragan Davidson. He was born in Lexington on April 10, 1926, and was the son of the late John Kinnear Davidson and Alice Sterrett Davidson. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hampton and was the manager of the body shop at Nick Allen Buick. Mr. Davidson was a graduate of Washington and Lee University. He received his master's degree from the University of Virginia. He was a prisoner of war in World War II and recipient of the Purple Heart. He served in Europe during the Korean conflict. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two daughters, Jean D. McCroba of Macon, Ga., and Lucy D. Blackwood of Atlanta, Ga.; two sons, John K. Davidson III of Smithfield and Allen R. Davidson of Richmond; one sister, Mrs. Cornelia Kraft of Islip, N.Y., and one brother, Frank Davidson of Texas, and five grandchildren. The Rev. D. Mrs. Sterrett was born Oct. 8, 1922, at Timber Ridge, duaghter of the late William Percy Lackey and Isabelle Stuart Lackey. She was married to Madison McClung "Mc" Sterrett, Jr., well known Rockbridge County farmer. She was a member of New Providence Presbyterian Church and a former member of the Brownsburg Wednesday Club. Betty Lou Fletcher, 71, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, departed this life to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 24, 2014, at her home surrounded by her family. Betty was born April 4, 1943, in Buchanan County. She was a daughter of the late Claude Fletcher and the late Fannie Nuckles Fletcher. She was the wife of the late George Bailey "G.B." Fletcher Jr. She was preceded in death by one son-in-law, Glenn Compton; three brothers-in-law; and two sisters-in-law. She was a member of Free Hill Baptist Church and spent many years singing for her Savior, Jesus Christ. Betty and G.B. owned and operated Betty's Fabric and Crafts. 23405	OBITUARY Norfolk Virginian Pilot; 10 Feb. 2012 James Edward Pohler Weeki Wachee, Fla. - James Edward Pohler, 83, formerly of Virginia Beach, passed away on Tuesday, February 7, 2012 at his residence in Weeki Wachee, Fla. He was a native of Detroit and a resident of Florida for the past 21 years, coming from Virginia Beach. James was a U.S. Navy Veteran. He worked as a project manager for Cofers in Norfolk. He was a member of the Heather Golf & Country Club and Pohler's Rollers Golf Club. James is survived by daughter, Mary Beth Witt of Richmond; son, Henry Allen Prillaman of Gallantin, Tenn.; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Zee H. Pohler in 1983 and his second wife, Mary Ann Pohler who passed away in September of 2007. Memorial services will take place in Florida. A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at the sanctuary at the First Baptist Church in Garland on Friday, December 12 at 1:00 PM. Visitation will be held in the sanctuary one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Big Springs Cemetery, 6538 North Jupiter Road in Garland. Robert was born to Robert Bruce Sandifer and Lovie Alphadelle Sandifer on June 4, 1937 in Dallas, TX. Robert grew up in Garland and graduated from Garland High School. He was employed by Texas Instruments in Dallas for 39 years before retiring in 1998. He enjoyed gardening, travel, spending time with his family and friends, reading and discussing politics and current world situations. He was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Shirley Sandifer, and his sister Helen Young. He is survived by his wife Melba Sandifer (married since 2004), sister Dorothy Davis, sons Robert Bruce Sandifer and wife Betty; Greg Keys and wife Rita, daughter Tonya Warren and husband Mark, seven grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. Also surviving are two step children, Don Rhudy, and Debra Gray, along with six step-grandchildren. He was loved greatly and will be missed by all. 23408	OBITUARY Oregonian; 10 Dec 1954 Allen Vinton Butts Death came Wednesday following a heart attack to Allen Vinton Butts, 68, retired grain snspector, at his home at 4375 S.W. 103d Avenue, Beaverton. Mr. Butts was born in Severy, Kan., October 19, 1886, and came to Oregon City at the age of 12. He later moved to Portland but has been living in Beaverton the past 21 years. Survivors include his widow, the former Frankie Florence Ogle; one daughter, Mrs. Levo L. Best, Astoria; one son, Benjamin F. Oris attended Freedom Ministry Church at Richlands. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Louis Cantrell and John Lee Cantrell; sister-in-law, Judy Cantrell and brother-in-laws, Kenneth Fredrick and Charles Crawford. 23411	OBITUARY Our treasured wife and mother, Ila Parker Reid, passed away on Tuesday, October 20, 1998 at her home in Bountiful, Utah of pancreatic cancer. She was surrounded by her loving husband, Charles Richard Reid, and her children. She was born November 7, 1932 in Mount Sterling, Cache County, Utah, the daughter of Henry R. and Sadie H. Parker. Growing up in Ogden, early in life she distinguished herself as a gifted musician while attending Weber High School, Weber State College, and Brigham Young University. She married Charles Richard Reid June 1, 1951 in the Logan LDS Temple. They are the beloved parents of nine children and 43 grandchildren. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She always put family first, and expressed gratitude and faith in a loving Heavenly Father. An accomplished artist, violinist, vocal soloist, pianist and organist, she taught music lessons for many years. Together with her daughters, they enjoyed sharing their musical talents in a variety of settings. She loved gardening, keeping her yard beautiful and her African violets blooming. Sister Reid enjoyed callings as a Relief Society teacher, Young Women leader, cultural arts specialist and Primary president. Her beautiful organ music will be greatly missed. She treasured her service in the Salt Lake Temple where she and her husband have served as ordinance workers. Although her spirit has departed this life, she left a legacy of example, service, artwork and memories that will remain. Her children and friends treasure her beautiful paintings hanging in their homes. She is survived by her husband, Charles Richard Reid and their nine children, Richard and Karen Reid, Provo; David and Jill Reid, Custer, Washington; Douglas and Rochelle Reid, Farmington; Kathleen and Steven Smoot, Kaysville; Rinda and David Cook, Saugus, California; Marianne and Brent Haslam, Draper; Holli and Kelly Oram, Kaysville; Larraine and Nathan Moore, Centerville; and Juliette Reid, Bountiful. She is also survived by her brothers Max and Dean Parker, and her sisters Maurine Smith and Elaine Harmston. 23413	OBITUARY Palatka News; 09 Feb 1912 Henry Wise Tribble, D.D., president of Columbia College, Lake City, and one of the most eminent men in the Southern Baptist Church is dead as the result of an accident at Rodman in this county , last Saturday night. Dr. Tribble has for some time past been in the habit of visiting Rodman two Sundays each month to hold divine service. He arrived late Saturday evening at the Rodman station on the Ocala Northern, where he was met by Thigpen, the colored driver of Mr. Cummings' railway motor. Dr. Tribble and J.A. Champion boarded the motor and upon arrival at the mill the motor ran into a log train which was standing on the track. Dr. Tribble sat in the front seat with Thigpen, and Mr. Champion on the back. The curtain windshield was down and they failed to see the log train through the glass window. The collision caused Dr. Tribble's right leg to be fractured below the knee and he received other bruises and internal injuries. Dr. E. W. Warren was called and arrived about an hour after the accident. He dressed the wound and ministered all he could to the distinguished patient. Dr. Tribble was taken to the home of Mr. H. C. Cummings, where he had most kindly solictious care. Dr. J. C. Chandler, also visited Dr. Tribble, and later his family, physician, Dr. Roy E. Chalker of Lake City was sent for. It is said that for 18 hours after his wound was dressed Dr. Tribble appeared to be rallying, then there was a steady decline. The shock had been more than he could stand. He died Tuesday morning at 6:15 am, and his body was taken to Lake City for interment. Dr. Tribble is survived by his wife and eight children. His death is a distinct loss to Florida, as besides being a distinguished educator, he was unquestionably the ablest minister in the Baptist Church of Florida. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Ravenswood for 80 years. He was born Jan. 23, 1947, in Peoria to Lory I. and Margaret (Sarff) Giddens. He was married to Anne (Hoehne) Giddens. She survives. Also surviving are his mother; his sister, Sandra Tripp of Peoria; daughter, Laurie (Paul) Larsen of Dunlap; son, Robert (Tara) Giddens of Bartonville; daughter, Julie (Dan) Fitzpatrick of Singapore; two stepdaughters, Teresa (Ali) Amer of Dubai and Stephanie (Randy) Shults of Pekin; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father. Curtis graduated from Peoria Central High School and served in the U.S. Army, stationed in Germany during the Vietnam War. Curtis retired from Caterpillar in 2002, after 38 years of service. His passions were golf and fishing and he always lit up a room with his sense of humor. She was born Oct. 25, 1921, in Snicarte, Ill., to Arthur and Mary Jane (Jennie Lane) Sarff. She married Lory Ivy Giddens in Iowa City, Iowa, on Jan. 14, 1941. He preceded her in death on April 16, 1994. She was also preceded by her parents; one son, Curtis L. Giddens on May 23, 2014; two brothers, Arthur and Robert Sarff; and two infant siblings. Margaret is survived by her daughter, Sandra Tripp of Peoria; one brother, James (Kathleen) Sarff of Chandlerville, Ill.; her daughter-in-law, Anne Giddens; four grandchildren, Laurie (Paul) Larsen of Dunlap, Eric Tripp of Peoria, Robert (Tara) Giddens of Bartonville and Julie (Daniel) Fitzpatrick of Bettendorf, Iowa; four great-grandchildren, Megan and Rachel Giddens and Sean and Kathryn Fitzpatrick; and many nieces and nephews. 23418	OBITUARY Polly Rebecca Marie Shelton Carter Stanley, age 69 of Richlands, Virginia passed away on Sunday, December 14, 2014 at The Clinch Valley Medical Center in Richlands, Virginia. She was born in Tazewell County, Virginia and was the daughter of the late, Edd and Freda Smith Shelton. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, and grandmother. She had worked as a Certified Nursing Assistance for over 25 years, taking care of others who needed her. She was a lifetime resident of the area. He graduated with Summa Cum Laude Bachelor Degree in Political Science and Anthropology from Denver University. Randy was a Boy Scout and achieved Eagle Scout at the early age 14. Randy truly believed in the Boy Scout Pledge of Honor and followed it throughout his life. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 50 years, Edgar V. "Buck" Russell Jr., who went ahead in 1988 to plant the dahlias, and prune the roses and irises in the Heavenly gardens. Now, together, they shall enjoy the blooms of eternity with the Master Gardener. Her family rejoices in the knowledge that this year, for the first time, she and Buck will together share Christmas with the One whom Christmas is all about! Louise was also preceded in death by, her father and mother, the Rev. Robert Nelson Hartness and Sarah Mitchell Hartness; her brother, Maj. Gen. Harlan Hartness; her granddaughter, Carolyn Yvonne Russell; and her great-grandson, Matthew Grant Russell. She was born March 16, 1912, at Lancaster Courthouse, Va., attended public school in Eastern Virginia, and State Teachers College at Farmville, now Longwood College. Louise taught school in Chesterfield County for four years before marrying a young chemistry instructor at VPI in 1938. For three years she was actively engaged in the Senior Woman's Club, in which she was president, until her husband was called to active military duty in 1941. After the family's return to Blacksburg in 1945, she became an active member of Southside Garden Club, which was an outgrowth of the Garden Committee in the Senior Woman's Club of Blacksburg. In addition to being president of the Southside Garden Club, she was president of the Blacksburg Council of Garden Clubs, which consisted of the nationally accredited garden clubs in Blacksburg. Louise was honored with a State Life Membership and also a National Council Life Membership. For many years she held the chairmanship of several committees on the district level, and almost as long on the state level. After completing several required courses of the Accredited Flower Show Schools, growing and exhibiting horticulture, making and exhibiting floral designs, and helping judge flower shows throughout Virginia, she felt proud to have had the opportunity to participate in the judging of the International Flower Show held in Miami Beach, Fla., and also in flower shows presented by the National Council Clubs in the Washington, D.C., area. Louise and her husband were avid dahlia enthusiasts, and grew many gorgeous varieties, which earned many blue ribbons in area shows. She felt quite honored that she had assisted in decorating the Virginia Tech President's home and the University Club on several occasions for annual events. Louise was proud to have been a member of Blacksburg United Methodist Church since coming to Blacksburg in 1938, and had been presented a Life Membership pin in the United Methodist Women Society. McBrayer, age 68, prominent Richlands resident succumbed to a heart attack in his automobile in front of the First Methodist Church on Sunday evening while waiting on his daughter. Mr. McBrayer was born in Coalton, Ohio, the son of the late James R. and Rebecca Eisnaugle. He was educated in the schools of Coalton and was employed by the N & W Railway for a period of 40 years. He moved to Richlands in 1922 as a railroad yard foreman and remained as such until he retired in 1950. He was a member of the Richlands Town Council in 1943-44 and a former Kiwanian. His wife, the former Georgianna Marsh, died in 1941. He is survived by two sons, James of Minot, N. D., Ralph of Williamson, W. Va., and four daughters, Mrs. Mary Stinson, Mrs. Maude Ringstaff, both of Richlands, Mrs. Helen Whittaker, of Cedar Bluff, and Mrs. Isabel Cruise of Union, W. Va. He is also survived by one brother, John of Roseville, Ohio and one sister, Mrs. Myrtle Perissis of Zanesville, Ohio. MCBRAYER Funeral rites were held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Christian Church for Mrs. Georganna Marsh McBrayer, wife of Charles William McBrayer, who died January 6th. Although she had been an invalid for the past ten years because of a heart ailment she became seriously ill and confined to bed only two weeks ago. The pastor, Mr.(Rev.) John Dunn and Rev. H. B. Abshire, of the Methodist Church were the officiating ministers. Arrangements were directed by the Farmer Funeral Home. Mr. and Mrs. McBrayer and their family came to Richlands from Portsmouth, Ohio, 18 years ago. During her residence here the deceased has been active in church work. Despite her invalidism during the past ten years she has continued to widen her circle of devoted friends. Surviving are her husband and their seven children, Ralph, McBrayer, of Iaeger, W. Before retiring in the 1980's, she was employed in a variety of administrative positions for the Columbia Gas County, Virginia; the Central Intelligence Agency (both in Washington, D.C., and Ankara, Turkey); Melpar, Inc., Fairfax, Virginia; and George Mason University, Fairfax, Virginia. She accompanied her husband, Bob, a retired military officer originally from Cattaraugus, N. Y., on overseas tours in Turkey, Puerto Rico, and Havana, Cuba. She was a member of the Board of Directors of the Charlestown Owners Association, Springfield, Virginia for the past 13 years. She also served as treasurer and membership chairperson for the Fairfield High School Alumni Association, Fairfield, Virginia since its first meeting seven years ago. She was an active participant in knitting and donating numerous baby afghans for Project Linus, a nonprofit organization dedicated to distributing handmade afghans, blankets, comforters and quilts to deserving children throughout the United States. Hazel retired from Hecht Company in Arlington, where she was a Sales Associate with thirty-one years service. She looked forward to Spring, her favorite season, when she could enjoy planting her flowers. She loved being with her grandchildren and great grandchildren at many family gatherings. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Ray Dean Lentz, two brothers, Barrette and Bryan Weaver, and a granddaughter, Carolyn Yvonne Russell. 23439	OBITUARY Roanoke Times; 19 March 2011 Ralph Davidson Lackey, 89, of Lexington, died on Thursday, March 17, 2011, at his home. He was born on September 28, 1921, in Rockbridge County, the son of the late Isaac F. Lackey and Mamie Page Lackey. Mr. Lackey was a lifelong resident of Lexington and Rockbridge County. He joined the Army Air Force during World War II and flew 106 combat missions in the South Pacific. Ralph and his father owned and operated Lackey Lumber Company until 1969, after that he became a real estate broker, and knew the lands and roads of Rockbridge County as well as anyone. He was a lifelong member, deacon, and elder of the Lexington Presbyterian Church, a member of the Mountain View Ruritan Club, and instrumental in chartering the Sam Houston Ruritan Club. For more than 30 years he served on the Rockbridge County Planning Commission as a member and chairman, and also served on the Rockbridge County Public Service Authority from its inception. Mr. Lackey served and chaired the board of the local American Red Cross where he enjoyed typing at the blood drives, and serving the county diligently during times of disaster. Ralph also enjoyed woodworking, working quietly behind the scenes helping others, doing yard work and garden work, and most of all being with his family. Surviving are his wife that he married 67 years ago on February 11, 1944, Edith McClung Lackey, of Lexington; one daughter, Cheryl Fairchilds and husband, Vern, of Lexington; one grandson, Page Fairchilds and wife, Holly; and two much loved great-grandsons, Isaac and Gabriel, all of Salem, Va. 23441	OBITUARY Roanoke Times; 20 July 20 1993 CURD, Thomas Henry Shelton Jr., of Roanoke, died Sunday, July 18, 1993, at his home, following an extended illness. He was born February 6, 1926, in Welch, W.Va., to the late Judge Thomas H. S. Curd and Grace Harman Curd. During World War II, in 1944-46, he served in the Phillipines with the U.S. Navy. After the war, he returned home to complete his education. Mr. Curd spent the first ten years of his professional career with the Trust Division, First National Exchange Bank of Roanoke, now First Union National Bank. He resigned in December 1961, to form Valley Marine Center, where he remained as president until he sold his interests some twenty years later. In the latter part of that period, he also became professionally active in investment real estate. He obtained his Real Estate Broker's license in 1972, and in 1976, received his CCIM designation (Certified Commercial Investment Member of NIREB), an arm of the National Association of Realtors. Mr. Curd taught several classes in real estate investment at Virginia Western Community College. He was co-founder and vice president of the Virginia Real Estate Exchangers, Richmond, and president of Investment Exchange Associates, Inc., a Roanoke commercial-investment real estate firm, from which he conducted his brokerage business. In 1978, he also founded and was president of ERA Alpha Omega Real Estate Services, a residential firm which he guided for eight years, until selling his interests. In 1980, Mr. Curd founded and subsequently served for five years as president and secretary of the Roanoke Commercial Multiple Listing Service, an affiliate of what was then the Roanoke Valley Board of Realtors. He is survived by his wife, Grace Woodson Curd; one brother, Dr. Howard Harman Curd and his wife, Nell Mantz Curd of St. Petersburg, Fla.; two sons, Thomas H. S. Curd III, Richmond and Walter H. W. 23443	OBITUARY Roanoke Times; 21 and 22 March 2011 Thomas Henry (Tom) Dixon, of Roanoke, passed away at home Saturday, March 19, 2011, at the age of 93. He was born in Rockbridge County, graduated from Parry McClure High School, received his bachelor's degree from Washington and Lee University, and obtained a master's degree from the University of Virginia. He started a career in education, which was interrupted by a tour in the United States Army, returning to teaching for about 38 years, one year at William Byrd High School and the remaining years at William Fleming as a teacher and dean of Camper Hall. Tom was an avid gardener, amateur meteorologist, loved to read, and was always interested in science of any type. He also loved to dance whether it was square dancing, round dancing, line dancing, or ballroom dancing. He was a member of Northminster Presbyterian Church, serving as an elder, teacher of the Logan Bible Class for 47 years, and occasionally as a lay minister. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Betty Laird Dixon; daughters, Diane Brammer and husband, Bobby, of Roanoke, Mary Lynn Smith and husband, Roger, of Fort Myers, Fla.; four grandchildren, Kris Brammer, of Southern Pines, N.C., Holly and Andy Smith, of Orlando, Fla., Keith Brammer and wife, Lindsey, of Huntersville, N.C.; and stepgrandson, Steve Brammer and wife, Debbie, of Roanoke. 23444	OBITUARY Roanoke Times; 21 September 2011 Samuel Craig Owens, 59, formerly of Wytheville, Va., was taken home to meet our Heavenly Father on Friday, September 16, 2011. He was helped to cross over with his loving wife of 37 years, his eldest daughter, numerous close family friends, and a white dove that arrived in his back yard that morning and left just prior to the moment of his death. Sam was born on June 27, 1952, in Lebanon, Va., just minutes before his twin sister, Sandy. The youngest of three other sisters, Sam was raised in a household of women and spoiled rotten as a babe. As he grew, he worked alongside his father with Pendleton's Construction Company building the bridges that dot the landscape of western Virginia and Tennessee. After graduation from George Wythe High School in 1970, Sam continued to work with Pendleton's for a couple of years until he joined the United States Navy in 1972. Sam's Navy career first began as an Engineering Aid with CBU 404 in Millington, Tenn. It was there he met his wife, Judy, while spending an evening at the USO. After a six month engagement, the two were wedded in holy matrimony in Judy's hometown of La Grange Park, Ill., on October 12, 1974. Sam then received orders for NMCB 74 out of Gulfport, Miss. In September 1975, they celebrated the birth of their first daughter, Jennifer, and made the decision to leave the service and move back to his hometown of Wytheville, Va. Sam spent the next five years working in the construction industry while attending Wytheville Community College. In August of 1978, they joyfully celebrated the birth of their second daughter, Amy. Sam graduated with an Associate degree of Drafting and Design Technology in 1981 and was named in Who's Who Among Students in American Junior Colleges for his outstanding merit and academic accomplishments. In 1981, Sam made the decision to re-enter the Navy and make a lifetime career out of it. Sam's first duty station upon reentry was with Public Works in Groton, Conn., and then he was assigned to the USNS Harkness. He spent a year searching for underwater mines in the Suez Canal. After Groton, Sam received orders to CBC Port Hueneme, Calif., and never left. He served in NMCB 4 and NMCB 3 and taught the Engineering Aids at NCTC. In 1990, Sam earned the right to call himself "Chief" as he pinned on the anchors for Chief Petty Officer. He was working as an instructor at CECOS when he retired in 1999 after giving 21 years of his life in service to our country. After retirement from the United States Navy Seabees, Sam continued to serve in a different way. He took a position as the Facilities Supervisor with Casa Pacifica in Camarillo, Calif. He always said his greatest joy in working there was when a child would come back to the home to thank him for being an inspiration and helping him to get his life back on track. Sam enjoyed the smaller things in life. He loved to garden, and throughout his years in the Navy was a consistent winner of Yard of the Month, always proudly displaying his Yard of the Month signpost mixed in among the colorful flowers of his garden. He had a talent for woodworking. He skillfully crafted cribs for all three of his grandchildren and made the bedroom set that has been in use by he and his wife for the past 37 years. He loved to fish. His favorite vacation spot was back home in Virginia where he could be found fishing the waters of Claytor Lake and New River with his brother-in-law or standing alongside Mad Dog Hole in Moccasin Creek. The family photo album is filled with pictures of his stringers and you could always gauge how big his smile was going to be by the number of fish held up beside him. He passed this love on to his daughters and grandchildren, even helping his grandson, Bowen, earn a merit badge in fishing by teaching him how to build and use a jerk pole on the waters of Moccasin Creek. Sam is survived by his wife of 37 years, Judy Owens; daughter, Jennifer Ormond, of Port Hueneme, Calif.; daughter, Amy Owens, of Royal Oak, Mich.; sister, Shirley Fletcher, of Mt. Caramel, Tenn.; sister, Juanita Jessee and brother-in-law, Paul Jessee, of Lebanon, Va.; sister, Barbara Gibson and brother-in-law, Giles Gibson, of Lebanon, Va.; twin sister, Sandra Blevins and brother-in-law, Ron Blevins, of Wytheville, Va.; three grandchildren, Bowen and Rhianna Ormond, and Evaline Boisvert; as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, and grand-nieces and nephews throughout the United States. He is preceded in death by his mother, Tina Carnelia Owens; father, Craig Scott Owens; and brother-in-law, William Burke Fletcher. Sam's last few days were spent in the comfort of his home on hospice care through Livingston Memorial Visiting Nurses Association (LMVNA). The family wishes to thank his care team, especially his nurse, Dan, and his social worker, Michelle, for the loving and gentle care and support he was given in his last few days with us on Earth. Sam's wishes were to be cremated and have his ashes spread at the headwaters of Moccasin Creek in Virginia. Lois was the heart and soul of her family. She was predeceased by her parents, Alton and Lillian Munger, her first husband, Lyle L. Marchant, infant son, Douglas and brothers, Don and Charles Munger. She is survived by her three daughters; Linda Marchant, JoAnn (Gary) Ward, Terry (John) Sammons, eight grandchildren, several great grandchildren and four nephews. She is also survived by her current husband, Russell Hurlburt. Lois was a devoted member of the First United Methodist Church of Warsaw. A dedicated and caring teacher in Warsaw and Perry School districts, and a substitute teacher after retirement in neighboring school districts. In her ?spare? time, Lois played piano/organ for her church and for other events, sang in the choir, was the tailor for her first husband?s clothing store, was a tremendous cook and baker for her family and others, but was most of all a loving, devoted mother, wife and grandmother always. 23449	OBITUARY Ronald D. Sorrell, 55, of Ashland, Ky., died Monday afternoon, Nov. 29, 2010, in King's Daughters Medical Center in Ashland. He was born Dec. 18, 1954, in Ashland, Ky., a son of Barbara Williams Sorrell Johnson of Ashland and the late Andrew J. Sorrell Jr. He was a 35-year employee of Windstream Communications and a member of Meade Station Church of God and the Communication Workers of America. He was a 1972 graduate of Boyd County High School. Additional survivors include his wife, Barbara Hill Sorrell of Ashland; daughters Sara Sorrell (James) Rollins, Sammie Sorrell, Heather Johnson, Mandy (James) Fryer and Kaci Nicole Giberson, all of Ashland; sisters Donna Sorrell (Bill) Greene of Ashland and Karen Sorrell of Minford, Ohio; grandchildren Cody Whitt and Jacob, Hannah and Kali Fryer; nephews Steven (Becky) Thompson of Ashland, Trenton and Austin Henson of Minford, Ohio, and Jason Harmon of Ocala, Fla.; nieces Andrea (Michael) Rue of Versailles, Ky., Tracy Salyers of Virginia and Samantha Smith of Williamson, W.Va.; and a host of loving extended family members and friends. 23450	OBITUARY ROSS A. LYNN of Carrollton, passed away June 3, 2012. He was born September 5, 1942 to Lt. Colonel Lloyd L. Lynn and Elizabeth Green Lynn in Union City, Tennessee. He served in the United States Coast Guard from 1960 to 1964 and was assigned to search and rescue vessels. Ross attended Atlanta Christian College where he met Ruth Blair, his wife of 44 years. Later, he graduated from Southern Polytechnic State University with a degree in Civil Engineering. Ross also obtained his Professional Land Surveyor?s License for the State of Georgia and the State of Alabama. Ross retired as Regional Vice President, Keck & Wood, Inc. after 38 years of service. He managed the Carrollton office from 1986 until his retirement and was named ?Employee of the Year? in 1991. During memberships at First Christian Church of Mableton, Bethany Christian Church, and Millers Academy Christian Church, Ross held a number of leadership positions. They included Chairman of the Board of Elders and Deacons, Bible School Superintendant, and Director of Music. He taught Bible School classes for 31 years. Ross also served as Chairman of Java and Beyond Mission Board. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Stuart L. Lynn. Surviving are his wife, Ruth B. Lynn and son, Russell L. Lynn of Carrollton; two nieces, Alicia L. Meadows of Eatonton, Georgia and Jessica N. Lynn of Atlanta, Georgia; nephew, Stuart L. Lynn, Jr. of Holly Springs, Mississippi; aunts, Wanda G. Henry and Johnnie S. Morgan of Dunlap, Tennessee and a number of other relatives. Also surviving are special friends Dan Craven and David Boyd. Visitation will be held Monday, June 4, 2012 from 5:00 ? 8:00 PM and the funeral will be on Tuesday, June 5, 2012 at the Chapel with Minister William (Bill) Gray and Mr. Matthew B. Gray officiating. Music by Mark Barnes and Cheryl Childers. Pallbearers will be David Boyd, Dan Craven, Stuart Lynn, Jr., Kenny Chambers, Russell Shadrix, Doyal Shirey and Delmar Shoemake.
