23152	Notes from Carol E. Vaughan, great granddaughter, Lexington, KY Irwin George, the sixth child of Thompson Dunnegan and Sophronia Tate, was born in Warren County, TN in 1849. Thompson's family had moved from VA to middle TN sometime between 1810 and 1817. After Irvin's grandfather, Absalom Dunnegan, died in White County, TN, his uncles, John and Samuel Dunnegan left that area and moved to southeast MO around 1843. After about ten years Irvin's father Thompson followed them to Iron County, MO and later to Wayne County, MO. Irwin was a farmer and owned a sawmill in Des Arc which he sold to G. W. Graves in 1890 for one thousand dollars. He was involved in a number of land transfers in Wayne County. One of the deeds reflected an understanding between Irvin George and his father, Thompson, in which Irvin would have a parcel of land for a nominal cost and would provide elder care for Thompson. It was signed in 1880 by Thompson and his second wife, Sallie E. Foquaide. Irvin died in 1895 of injuries resulting from a very serious accident in 1894 at a saw mill in Wayne County. Carol Vaughan remembers this version as told by her grandfather, Walter C. Dunnegan. "Granddaddy said that people would come to their house and cut off patches of their own skin to graft onto his father's are flesh in hopes that his wounds would heal. He was at home in bed a long time before he died." The following death notice in the Iron County Register paints an even more agonizing and painful death. Iron County Register, June 20, 1895 From Des Arc I. G. Dunnegan, who was scalded in a wreck on a log boom below Poplar Bluff last summer, was brought home last winter. All the flesh was burned off his legs from his hip down. He has suffered death a thousand times, and of late he suffered so much you could hear him hollow and take on for some distance. So the Doctors concluded to cut off one of his lets, and Sunday, Drs. Petit, Gay, Tates and Sebastian amputated his leg, but he only lived until night. Poor man! He is better off. 23153	Notes from Carol E. Vaughan, great granddaughter, Lexington, KY. In the 1900 Wayne County, MO Census, Anna was a widow with 6 children. She managed a boarding house and had 14 boarders at that time. Some of their property was sold for taxes in 1910 and it was around that time when Anna married M. A. Thompson and moved to Arkansas. Other members of her family (Kimmel) had already moved to the area around Pine Bluff. Before 1910, Annie married M. A. Thompson and moved to Pine Bluff, AR where he owned a grocery store on Cherry Street. Walter lived with them for a while and Eddie lived most of his adult life with them. Genevieve Dunnegan Wilkes said that Eddie had a place behind his mother's house in Pine Bluff where he lived and worked as a painter. He is buried in Pine Bluff at Graceland Cemetery. Ted, struck out on his own at a young age and spent most of his life in Texas. Ida married Frank L. Baird in 1901. They lived for a while in Izard County, AR. Etta was still single in 1904 and living in/near Piedmont, MO (she did some traveling with her grandmother, Caroline Dunnegan Kimmel.) She later married Guy Hauser who worked for the railroad. After her death, Guy married his sister-in-law, Ida Dunnegan Baird, who was a widow by that time. They lived in Newport, AR, at least until the mid 1940's. Nothing is known about Charley. Annie Kimmel Dunnegan Thompson died in Newport, AR on December 3, 1944, at the home of Guy and Ida Houser. She was 84. Her death certificate shows that she had broken her hip which contributed to the cause of her death of an embolism. Since M. A. was 86 at that time, it would have been difficult for him to care for her. He (Magnus A. Thompson) was 93 when he died. He is buried in an unmarked grave next to his mother's plot in Graceland Cemetery in Pine Bluff, AR.	Kimmel, Sarah Anna (I15257)
23154	Notes from Christopher Richards (cmrichards@blueyonder.co.uk): His son Thomas Whiteaker is described as "junior" in the baptism entry for his first two children. He and his son are the only Thomas Whiteakers in the Thornhill registers. I think it likely that the Elizabeth, wife of Thomas Whiteakers who died in 1678 is his wife rather than his son's wife. The sequence of his son's children doesn't really leave room for a death and remarriage. Mr Thos Whitacres is listed in the 1672 Hearth Tax list for Thornhill as paying for 9 hearths. Again it is not certain if this refers to the father or the son. IN the Thornhill Parish Registers for 1653 there is a note that Thomas Webster of Dewsbury, George Allan of Chickerley and Thomas Whiteakers of Dewsbury agreed to pay for any bastard children of Mary Brooke of Thornhillees. I take this to be him. And in the Thornhill burial registers for 25 November 1663 there is a record of the burial of Peter Alcock, Mr Whitteakers' man in Thornhill. I deduce from this entries that Thomas Whiteaker was from Dewsbury. His marriage was in Thornhill but there are no baptism entries in the Thornhill registers for his children. So it is likely that his wife came from Thornhill and he took on her Thornhill property while continuing to live in Dewsbury. I think it is also likely that his son Thomas took on the Thornhill house when he got married. This leaves the problem of which Thomas Whiteaker of Dewsbury he was. It is not certain that this Thomas is the brother of Mark. I'm basing it partly on the 2 year interval and partly that only one Thomas Whitakers is having children bapt at Dewsbury at this time. I take it that he is the Thomas Whiteakers who was married at Thornhill on 26 July 1654 and therefore the grandfather of the Mark who was baptised in 1677 who is probably the same as Mark of Baltimore. Naming patterns support this indentification. This Thomas comes after an Elizabeth and a Mark. His presumed son Thomas of Thornhill had a daughter called Elizabeth followed by a son called Mark. Mark of Baltimore had children Elizabeth, followed by Thomas, followed by Mark. There are several records submitted by members of the LDS church giving his date of birth as 10 February 1634. I remain unclear about his marriage. There are lots of Thomas Whittaker and variants marriages. I suspect that Elizabeth Thomas died before 1666 and that the Elizabeth Whiteaker in the Thornhill registers is the wife of Thomas the younger of Thornhill. 23157	Notes from Peter David Whitaker Joseph remains as somewhat of an enigma. From 1852 he seems to disappear without trace. Evidently he was probably born in Ossett on 6 February 1819 to John and Sarah and christened on 4 April 1819 in Dewsbury Parish Church. He married Hannah Scott on 17 August 1845 at Dewsbury P.C. He is described, as is his father, as a "Clothier". Joseph and his family were living in Quebec Street, Wakefield by the 1851 census. Soon after his son's birth on February 1852, he vanishes from official records. By 1861 and 1871 Hannah is living without him although not yet classifying herself as a "Widow". The marriage certificates for his children, Fred in December 1875 and Lydia in March 1876, both show Joseph Whitaker, Clothier or Cloth Weaver as "Father." 23158	Notes from the Estate Files of Aaron Tate, Sr., John Tate, Elizabeth Connelly Tate, and Maben Dock Tate, all late of Dekalb County, Alabama, by Roland Tate. JOHN TATE: On May 06, 1863, Elizabeth (Weaver) Tate, Samuel Weaver, A. Frazier, and G. W. Malone signed a bond, and application for the appointment of Elizabeth Tate and John B. Frazier as Administrators of the Estate of John Tate was made. They qualified as Administrators on February 18, 1867. July 10, 1867, a petition was made for a distribution to be made to the John Tate Estate from the Aaron Tate Estate. Apparently, a distribution was made. Elizabeth Tate promptly made application for the sale of the John Tate lands to pay John's debts. A petition for a guardian's fair share of the Estate was denied and was set at a 1/30th. Part. September 11, 1867, a John Tate Estate accounting was made, and the expenses for the children were obviously inflated. Then another accounting was made on February 26, 1869. Elizabeth listed well in excess of $6,000 in tuition, board, and clothing for her minor children, Mary "Polly" Ann Tate, Aaron Tate, and Hannah Elizabeth Tate. A distribution was made which included the widow, the children, and interest on the admin. expenses for the estate for 5 years. Elizabeth resigned as Administrator of the Estate. The Judge asked for Two men who knew the land and the heirs of John Tate to give him an evaluation and description of the land. A voucher for legal services was submitted on March 16, 1869. July 22, 1869, the Two men requested on February 26th gave testimony in verification of the lands described as the SE ¼ of the Se ¼ of Section 14 and the SW ¼ of the SW ¼ of Section 13, both in Township 7S, Range 8E of the Huntsville Meridian. They further stated that they knew the heirs, Elizabeth Tate the widow about 36, Polly Tate about 12 or 14, Aaron Tate about 10, and Elizabeth Tate about 8.	TATE, John (I14361)

According to other sources, including submissions to familysearch, the John Tate that married Elizabeth McClanahan was the son of John Tate and Jane Steele, which would explain the reference to "John Tate, Jr." in the Chalkley's record. By a process of elimination, the John Tate Jr who married Elizabeth McClenachan on 27 Feb 1794 must be the son of James2. The other Johns in the 3rd generation are accounted for: John of John2 was not mentioned in a 1814 court case (Finley vs Tate) with his siblings and was probably one of the two unnamed sons who were "since dead under age, unmarried and intestate;" John of William2 went to IN; and John of Robert2 married Nancy Moffett. Starting in 1790, John appeared on the Augusta County tax lists as John Tate Jr to distinguish him from his grandfather John Tate Sr and uncle John Tate Esquire. A small holding of 1 white titheable and 1 horse in 1790-93 indicate he was less well off than John Esq who had about a half dozen horses and several slaves. For several years after 1793, John Jr had one or more additional titheables— - one probably being his brother Isaac. Mrs. Nicely was born on August 18, 1923 in Richmond, a daughter of the late Curlee Hobson Rose and Jessie Onie Peyton Rose. She was a member of the Manly Memorial Baptist Church where she was a member of the Ladies' Bible Sunday School Class. She worked 18 years for Burlington Industries and provided day care for numerous children in the Lexington area for many years. She was preceded in death by one brother, Roth B. Rose. Mrs. Nicely is survived by her husband, Kenton L. Nicely; one daughter, Carole Rose Barton and husband, Steven Blain Barton, all of Lexington; three sisters: Maruma Rose Warren, Roanoke; Lucretia Rose Fresquez, Williamsburg; and Sherrill Rose Ogden, Atlanta, GA. He was born in Floyd County on March 8, 1900, son of the late Henry Vinson and Mary Matilda Wilson Shaw. He had resided in Rome and Floyd County his entire life. He was a retired captain of 3 Station of the Rome Fire Department, having been with the fire department for 27 years prior to his retirement in 1960. He was a member of Bush Arbor Baptist Church. Survivors include his widow, the former Connie Teat, to whom he was married Nov. 24, 1930; one brother, Collie Shaw of Melbourne, Fla.; three sisters, Mrs. Eunice Montgomery of Cave Springs, Mrs. Flonnie Coffin of Cave Springs and Mrs. Lessie Burton of Cedartown Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of Daniel's Funeral Home with the Revs. H. Church, She was a retired ward secretary and private duty nurse at Stonewall Jacksan Hospital. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Lambert Stuart Owens. Survivors include three daughters and two Sons-in-law, Allena Lou Nicely, Brenda and Bill Claytor all of Lexington, Gay and Tony Bradley of Powell TN; two sons and daughters- in-law, Sidney and Vicky Nicely of Lexington, Benjamin William and Mary Helen Nicely of Fairfield; sister-in-law Agnes Sensabaugh Benson of Wayneshoro, brother-in-law Harry Grim of Staunton, the children's father and stepmother, Albert and Alice Nicely of Goshen; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Va. to Ralph and Lillian E. (Osborne) Blevins. She was employed by Kroger Grocery. She was a member of Kent Moose Lodge and Crestview Baptist Church. She enjoyed playing games, cards, bingo and bowling. She is survived by her husband, Thurel, whom she married on July 2, 1951; sons, Douglas (Michelle) of Munroe Falls and Robbie (Cathy) of Massillon; daughters, Beverly (Brian) Jones of Akron and Pam (David) Wilson of Kent; twelve grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brother, Donald Blevins of Charleston, S. 23176	OBITUARY Akron Beacon Journal, OH; 4 & 5 Aug. 2014 FOX Richard W. IV Richard W. Fox IV, 92, of Akron, Ohio, went home to be with the Lord on August 2, 2014. He was born in Crookston, Minn., and lived in the Akron and Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio areas for over 60 years. Richard served in World War II on the U.S.S. Colorado and also in the Korean War. He retired from the accounting department of Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company. Richard was a faithful attendee of The Chapel, was a member of Meade Avenue Christian Church, and a former member of High Street Christian Church. He was active in the Akron Metropolitan Hiking Club. He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Freida J. Fox; parents, Rev. Richard W. Fox III and Mamie Lynch Fox; and sister, Evelyn House. 23177	OBITUARY Albert Duke Littlejohn May 16, 1927 - August 29, 2013 Mr. A. D. "Buck" Littlejohn, Jr. age 86, of Rome, GA, died at a local health care facility Thursday morning, August 29, 2013. Mr. Littlejohn was born in the old McCall Hospital of Rome May 16, 1927. He was the son of the late Albert and Sarah Littlejohn. He was also preceded in death by a daughter; Anne Lindsey Littlejohn, and one sister; Martha "Polly" Littlejohn Merlau. Mr. Littlejohn graduated from Darlington School, attended the Merchant Marine Academy in Great Neck, Long Island, served as a Merchant Marine, continued his education, and graduated from Georgia Tech. Upon graduation he immediately began his 36 year career with the Pure Oil and Unocal Companies as a Manager of Marketing Relations. 23180	OBITUARY Andrew Jackson "Jack" Craddock, 74, of Beckley, died Thursday, Sept. 17, 1998, at a Beckley hospital following an apparent heart attack. Born March 27, 1924, at Winding Gulf, he was the son of the late Nathaniel Cleve and Daisy Ellen Flinchum Craddock. Mr. Craddock spent his childhood at Lywinn. In the early 1940s he served in the Civilian Conservation Corps, entering the U.S. Navy in 1942. A machinist, gunner and navigator, he was in 14 engagements and 21 invasions, among them the raising of the flag at Iwo Jima. He also served in the East China Sea. He was a heavy equipment operator for Westmoreland Coal Company with 30 years of service. He was a member of the UMWA Local 6105 at Midway, the Sophia VFW Post 4326 at Midway, the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Post 3506 and the Beckley Moose Lodge, Post 1606. He was a member of the Hollywood Missionary Baptist Church and was an avid fisherman. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Geneva Wickline Craddock; a daughter, Linda Carroll Craddock; a sister, Toby Cummiford; and two brothers, Darrell and Jerry Wayne Craddock. He loved comedy and action movies, and was a big fan of Dragon Ball Z and Pokémon. Benny loved animals, especially large, scary-looking dogs. You could always catch him driving around in his Dodge vehicles as he loved to take drives and explore the old country roads of his beautiful West Virginia. He was also a huge fan of the old Nintendo games like Castlevania and Zelda and could play them for hours. But above all of the material things, he loved his children with a mad passion and was proud of their accomplishments and liked to brag about his kids. She was born and raised on Ball Knob on Lewis Creek in Honaker and had lived in Honaker most of her life. She passed away at her home in Honaker. A 1938 graduate of Honaker High School, she was a wonderful God-fearing mother and friend to all who knew her. She was known for her love of family, flowers, gardening, outstanding cooking and her involvement with the Swords Creek Senior Citizens. She was a member of the East Lebanon Free Will Baptist Church. She and her husband had been blessed to travel to all 50 states. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by six brothers, Clyde Ball, Glen Ball, Ayers Ball, Ben Ball, Harold Ball and Kenneth Ball, and two sisters, Mamie Ball Anderson and Margie Ball Herndon. Survivors include her husband of 65 years, J. She lived her entire life in the Bethel and Spring Creek Communities of Washington County and was a homemaker. She also worked for many years at Statzer's Restaurant and was widely known as an excellent cook. She was a member of Victory Baptist Church in Bristol, Va., and was the widow of Eugene R. "Gene" Whiteaker. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Marshall Grant; a sister, June Grant; and a great-great-grandson, Nathan Whiteaker.
