William Temple, Gent., son and heir of Joseph, appeared and consented to enter immediately on the contestation of the wills. Ann swore that "A" was published at the date therof, 1744, and that "B" was not published before witnesses; after "B" was written, his daughter Hannah married, and he wished to make changes, which his son William transcribed. This transcription was "C" with which the testator was not satisfied, and a few days before he died he received news of the death of his brother, William of Bristol, England, and that his brother's estate had fallen to him. He planned to make a new will as soon as he got an account but if any accident happened to him, he had a will by him, and Ann Temple, his widow, believed that "A" was that will. William Temple declared that he knew nothing of "A"; however, Elizabeth Jones, a witness, swore to "A" and it was received as the testator's will. The land which Col. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Helen McBrayer Whitaker; one son, James R. Whitaker; and two sisters, Fannie Dean and Alice Luttrell. Survivors are: one daughter and son-in-law, Mrs Branch (Frances) McGlothlin of Cedar Bluff; one son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Hilda Whitaker of Savannah, Georgia; Daughter-in-law, Mrs. Roselma Whitaker of Dublin, Va.; two brothers, Willam Otis Whitaker of Danville, Va., and Charlie Lee Whitaker of Windsor, Conn.; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren also survive. Dickson show that Dr.Sam was at James Castellow's home on several occasions in 1851in what appears to be the delivery of a baby and treating both James and Sarah for some type of fever using quinine. Later, in February 1852, Dr. Sam was back to treat William for several days and then Thomas for several days in July. On February 3, 1852, it appears twins were born to James and Sarah Ann. They must not have survived since census records do not show any children in the household born during this time frame. In March 1853, Dr. Sam was back for five visits to an unnamed child. 20530	He was a colonist and community leader in the Virginia Colony who helped settle the area of South Hampton Roads known in today as the city of Virginia Beach, Virginia. Thoroughgood was from a prominent family in King's Lynn, Norfolk, England. At the age of 18, he became an indentured servant to pay for passage to the Virginia Colony, a project of the Virginia Company of London at the time. Around 1622, he settled in an area south of the Chesapeake Bay and a few miles inland from the Atlantic Ocean. Serving his period of indenture, he returned to England, to return to Virginia with a wife and 105 men. Granted a large landholding, he became a leading citizen of the area. He was elected to the House of Burgesses and the Governor's Council, and as a Justice of the Court. He also became a Captain in the local militia and started the first ferry service in Hampton Roads. Alexander was also a noted mountaineer, having succeeded in many major ascents, e.g. in the Swiss Alps and Colorado Rockies. The Alexander's Chimney, in the Rocky Mountain National Park, is named after him. When in Princeton, he liked to climb the university buildings, and always left his office window on the top floor of Fine Hall open so that he could enter by climbing the building.
