He received his undergraduate degree from La Sierra University, Riverside, California, and then went on to earn three advanced degrees at the Adventist Theological Seminary in Washington D.C. and finally his Ph.D. degree from the University of London in 1964. His thesis was published in London for the Church Historical Society under the title, The Celtic Church in Britain. It is one of the most significant studies on Celtic Christianity available today. During a hiatus from teaching from 1973 to 1977 he came to southern California to pastor the Glendale City church and then his focus returned to education when he became president of Adventist University of the Philippines (formerly Seventh-day Adventist Theological Seminary, Far East). At AUP he planned and built a library for the seminary and dedicated his personal library of almost 1,000 books to it. Hardinge authored several other books including Shadows of His Sacrifice and His Name is Wonderful. Probably best known for producing audio tapes for the weekly Sabbath School lesson, a favorite of Sabbath School class teachers in many countries for some 28 years, Hardinge's teachings were distributed by The Spoken Word. An authority on the Isarelite Sancturary, he often said that if people could understand what happened in the sancturary, they would understand the relationship between God and man. She was both loved and respected as music teacher. Joyce was born in Calcutta, India, of British colonial parents, Eustace and Constance Hardinge. She spent her childhood years in India and then attended school at Stanborough College in Watford, England. She completed a teacher's degree (L.R.A.M.) at the Royal Academy of Music in London and then returned to teach at Stanborough. Robert Sidney Joyce, an Irishman who had been born in Belfast, met her while a student at SC. They became engaged and married in 1927. During the next seventeen years, he experienced considerable success as an evangelist and then became president of the South England Conference in 1935 and the North England Conference in 1939. In 1947, the Joyces accepted an invitation to serve at the Boulder, Colorado, Seventh-day Adventist church in the Central Union in the U.S. Two years later, he became the pastor of the Union College church in Lincoln, Nebraska, and she began teaching piano as an instructor at the college, rising to the rank of assistant professor in her seven years there. During their stay in Lincoln, he became president of the Nebraska Conference. They then returned to the Colorado Conference where he served as president, and then settled in the Lake Union, where he served as president of the Indiana Conference. 13286	Fort Myers News-Press, 2004-07-19 -- Aubrey S. Rutledge, age 86 of Fort Myers went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 17th. Born January 25, 1918 in Fort Myers to S.L. and Urmiah Rutledge. He lived in Fort Myers all of his life with the exception of time spent in college and the service. Aubrey attended the University of Florida from 1936 through 1939 and then joined the U.S. Air Force where he served his country from 1941 to 1945. He returned and worked in his father's citrus grove and then went into construction laying tile and marble. He also worked for the State of Florida as a vocational instructor for 12 years. Prior to his retirement he engaged in retail sales. Aubrey was a member of the Olga Baptist Church for 30 years until he and his wife Lou relocated into town where they became members of Central Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his brother Baron Ralph Rutledge in 1945 during the Battle of the Bulge; his parents S.L. and Urmiah Rutledge; sisters Evelyn Phillips, Justine Wheeler and Iris Stinson. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Lou Rutledge; step-children Beverly Lake of Franklin, PA; David Hughes of Fort Myers; and Phillip Hughes of Enterprise, AL; 9 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren; nephew Fritz Pellum and niece Carolyn Bolar, both of Anchorage, Alaska; niece Patricia Comer of Columbia, GA; nephew Barry Stinson and his sons Cole and Ben, all of Ft. Myers. A funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 21st at the Central Baptist Church of Ft. Myers, 3208 Central Avenue. Friends may visit at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in Ft. Myers Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 1589 Colonial Boulevard, Fort Myers. 13295	Frederick See and his father George See were one of the early settlers of Augusta County, Virginia arriving in about 1743. Frederick built his cabin home along the Greenbrier river on what was called Muddy Creek. In 1755, war broke out between France and England and the French incited the Native Americans to make war on the back-country settlers of Virginia. Many of the settlers moved to safer areas. In 1762 the Greenbrier settlement was renewed, but it wasn't safe. Chief Cornstalk led a party of 80 or 90 Shawnees crossed over the Ohio River and swept up the Kanawha in July 1863. They came to the Frederick See cabin in a friendly manner. The Sees welcomed them, and as it was near to mealtime they offered to share their food with the Indians. After the meal was finished, the Shawnees lounged around for a bit and rested. Suddenly they fell upon their family, killing Fredrick Michael See, his son-in-law (Littleberry Roach) and Felty Yocum, Frederick's cousin. The women and children were taken prisoners. 13299	From "Drake in England" p. 88: "William Drake was presented for default of residence on 6 April 1592 and fined on inhabited houses in the manor Court of Abell in Halstead 30 December 1600. Earlier on 1 February 1579, he was named as witness to the apprenticeship of Tobias son of Richard Ebbes of Sandy in Befordshire a woollen draper, to Thomas Wilkinson, linen draper. Although traces of Puritan influence can be seen in the introduction of Old Testament names for children in some of the branches of the family, William Drake and his wife are the first to be identified with the extreme Puritans who rejected the established Church of England. In the records of the Archdeacon of Colchester's Court we find them being fined for not attending the parish Church in 1611 and later, in 1615, he was presented by the Churchwardens of Elmstead 'for not coming orderly to Church on the Sabbath Daye' and was duly fined 12d. on 28 June 1615.
