Otis Franklin Vipperman, age 72 of Vass Branch, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 18, , at his home following a long illness. Born on January 17, 1940, at Maxwell Hill, he was the son of the late Maude Scott Vipperman and the late Bennonie T. Vipperman. Mr. Vipperman was an auto body shop manager for Grady Whitlock Ford in Beckley for many years. He was preceded in death by two brothers, a sister, and two grandsons, Thomas "Eddie" Biggs and Ronnie Chapman. Those survivors left to cherish his memory include his wife of 55 years, Evelyn Robinson Vipperman, his children; Roberta Clark and her husband James of Mt. Hope, Sandra Vipperman of Richmond, Va., Otis Dewayne Vipperman and his wife Diane of Oceana, Theresa Biggs and her husband Thomas of Alderson, Allen Vipperman of Maryland, Timothy Vipperman and his wife Ellen of Rupert; a sister, Merna Vipperman of Crana, Va.; nine grandchildren, and 14 great grandchildren also survive. Funeral services will be conducted at the Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel in Beckley on Friday, November 23, 2012 at 11 a.m., with Pastor Jonathan Hunt officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park in Beckley. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until service time on Friday. Pauline was a member of Fairview Christian Community Church and was devoted to her family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by grandchildren; Matthew & Stevie along with 9 siblings: Cleo, Clara, Fannie, Joe, Gus, Frank, Hub, Evelyn, and Bill. She will be lovingly remembered by her 8 children and their spouses. At the time of his retirement a few years ago, Mr. Hudson's service with the N & W totaled 30 years, and he was to have received a continuous members button in recognition of this service from the B. of L. F & E. Bluestone Lodge 446, Bluefield, at a meeting of that group on March 15th. Mr. Hudson came to Richlands about thirty years ago. For several years prior to her death, he and his wife operated the Eagle Hotel here. He was a member of Kazim Temple, Roanoke, and Richlands Lodge 318 A. F. & A. M. Surviving is his daughter, Miss Delores "Toot" Hudson, who made her home with her father. Funeral services will be held at the Methodist Church at 2 p.m. Friday. The pastor, Rev. H. A. Phillips, will officiate. Interment will be in Hankins cemetery with members of the Masonic Lodge in charge of the committal rites. Hurst-Scott Funeral Home is directing arrangements. Tate, Jr, a 38 year old Blacksburg man, was found dead yesterday in a recreation parlor of the Blacksburg Fire Station, from a bullet wound. According to Dr. R.H. Grubbs, the medical examiner, the bullet which killed Tate was apparently self-inflicted. Grubbs said no reason for the suicide had been found. The shooting occurred between 12:30 and 1 a.m. Monday (8/28/1961). Surviving are his wife, Phyllis Hale Tate, daughters Patricia Leigh Tate and Mary Ruth Tate, of Blacksburg, one son, Robert H. Tate; his mother, Mrs. Mary Moore Tate, two sisters Mrs. R.W. Henderson of Blacksburg, and Mrs. J.W. Payne, Warrenton. Funeral will be 3 p.m. Tuesday in the Blacksburg Methodist Church.
