Services for John Douglas Dortch Sr. will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at O'Bryant Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. David Wilkinson and Dr. Doug Dortch Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Choctaw Corner Cemetery. Mr. Dortch, 78, of York, died Sunday, March 22, 2009, at the Hospice of West Alabama in Tuscaloosa. He was born November 3, 1930, in Thomasville to the late Kirksey Dortch and Eva Spinks Dortch. He was a graduate of Thomasville High School and the University of Alabama. He was a first Lieutenant in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.Mr. Dortch owned and operated the Western Auto Associate Stores in York and Livingston for 30 years, where he was known for his integrity, diligence, and congenial spirit. He was a faithful member of the York Baptist Church, and served as a deacon. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Betty Hall Dortch; his son, John Douglas Dortch Jr. and his wife Judy, of Tallahassee, Fla.; his daughter, Maria Dortch Hardy and her husband Glen, of Tuscaloosa; his grandchildren, Corrie Dortch Zimmerman and her husband Brent, of Jacksonville, Fla., John Douglas Dortch III, of Tallahassee, Fla., Charles Glen Hardy Jr., James Douglas Hardy, and Emily Faith Hardy, all of Tuscaloosa; and his brother, Kirksey Dortch, of Birmingham. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Eloise Dortch Holloway and Jean Dortch Bouler; and his brother Robert D. Dortch. Pallbearers will be Jimmy Black, John Dortch, Glen Hardy, James Hardy, Andrew Wilkerson, and Brent Zimmerman.Honorary pallbearers will be Billie Carney, Johnny Cook, Glenn Dortch, Norman Masters, and Robert Taylor. William (Bill) Jack McCann, 83, of Bluefield, VA, died on Monday, February 20, 2017. Bill was born on January 16, 1934 in Cedar Bluff, VA and was the son of the late George Russell and Helen Pack McCann. He was a member of the Brush Fork Church of God. He was a graduate of Richlands High School, where he enjoyed football and baseball. He later attended Lynchburg and Bluefield College. Bill was a veteran of the Korean War, serving as a combat medic for the U.S. Army. Bill retired from Norfolk & Southern Railroad after 31 years of service as an Industrial Engineer. Never one to be idle, he and his son then opened and ran Precision Golf in Bluefield, VA for an additional 26 years. Bill enjoyed golfing and talking to everyone, (it seemed as he knew everyone in the Bluefields), as well as taking up tickets for Graham High School Football games, which he did for 40 years. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. Although Bill loved his family, his passion was for his wife of 59 years, Betty. Married as young sweethearts, they were fiercely devoted to each other. Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by his son, Barry Jack McCann. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Betty; his daughter and son-in-law, Marcella and John Jones; his grandchildren, Jennifer and Courtney Jones; daughter-in-law, Kathy S. McCann; brother, Charles; sister, Mary Ruth Lowe and her husband, Marvin; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Friday, February 24, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. at Dudley Memorial Chapel with Rev Samuel Chaffin officiating. Visitation will be held one hour immediately prior to the service. Entombment will follow at Grandview Memory Mausoleum, with family and friends serving as pallbearers. Military Rites will be conducted by the VFW Post #9696 and the Pocahontas American Legion Post #14. Born and raised in Tazewell, Va., he passed away in Gulfport, Miss. where he resided since 1977. He was a U.S. Air Force Veteran and retired senior electronics technician for the Federal Civil Service (NAVOCEANO). Oliver was preceded in death by his parents, William G. Larimer and Flora Bell Asbury Larimer Vermillion, and his younger brother, Joseph D. Larimer. Survivors include Oliver's beloved wife of 50 years, Saipin Larimer from Pratchinburi, Thailand; four daughters, Sandra Stewart and husband, Rick of Old Hickory, Tenn., Nancy ?Jeannie? Sexton and husband, Donald of Gulfport, Miss., Jacqueline Seavey and husband, John of Long Beach, Miss., and Samantha Sampson of Egg Harbor, N.J.; eight grandchildren, Brett Stewart, Wade Stewart, Charles ?Chuck? Sexton, Sara Sexton-Pilgreen and husband, Austin, Sydney Pedersen, Erik Pedersen, Marisa Sampson, Garrett Sampson; three great-grandchildren, Violet Batman, Isabel Batman, and Samuel Pilgreen. Lowe, 86, of the Middle Creek section of Cedar Bluff, died July 20 in a Richlands hospital following a lengthy illness. Born in Cedar Bluff, he was the son of the late Mose and Vicie Lowe, both Cedar Bluff natives. He had made his home in the Cedar Bluff area all of his life and was a retired mechanic from CONSOL having worked there for 44 years. He had attended grade school on College Hill in Cedar Bluff and was an elder and deacon at the Cedar Bluff Presbyterian Church. He had also attended the Middle Creek Advent Christian Church. He was a member of the Cedar Bluff Masonic Lodge #260 AF & AM and was a U.S. Air Force Veteran. He was a member of UMWA Local #6640 Amonate. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Johnson and Margaret Mullins, and two brothers, Everett and Wayne Lowe. Survivors: wife, Lillie B. Lowe; daughters, Shirley Childress and husband, Jim, of Cedar Bluff, Nancy C. Leighton, 72, of Pigeon Hill Road in Union, died Saturday morning, Aug. 13, 2005, at Frisbie Memorial Hospital in Rochester, after a brief illness. Born Sept. 3, 1932, in Middleton, he was a son of the late Presco E. and Gladys E. (Russell) Leighton. He resided in Union most all of his life. A United States Army veteran, he was stationed in Korea for two years, where he was an MP. He was an active member of the V.F.W. Post #7663 in Union. In earlier years, he drove tractor trailers, drove a truck for New England Box, had worked at the Woolen Mill in Gonic, and also had been a logger. Albert retired, after 19 years, from the State of New Hampshire Department of Transportation, where he worked with the Highway Department. He enjoyed fishing and hunting. Survivors include his niece and nephew, Carol C. Leighton and Steven R. Leighton, with whom he resided in Union; six siblings, Evelyn M. Currier of Dover, Edwin P. Leighton of Farmington, Bernice D. Frechette of Somersworth, Herbert F. Leighton of Farmington, Francis E. Leighton of Alaska, and Robert C. Leighton of Effingham; many nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, and greatgrandnieces and greatgrandnephews, and several cousins. He was predeceased by two sisters, Eleanor Leighton and Doris Leighton.
