OBITUARY

Clifton Wallace Blair, 80, of Kingsport, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Tuesday, November 3, 2015 at the residence of his daughter. He was born May 29, 1935 in Gate City, VA to the late Robert Lee and Georgia Musick Blair.

Wallace was a kind, fun loving and hard working man who loved his family more than his own life. He was a steadfast husband, father, papaw and friend. His children will cherish his memory and hold him in their hearts forever. A simple man, Wallace?s favorite food was biscuits and gravy.

He was a man of faith who enjoyed singing, laughter and fellowshipping with his family and church family. Wallace was a member of Higher Ground Baptist Church but was presently attending Grace Point Fellowship. He was also a member of the Teamster?s Union.

Wallace retired from Holliston Mills following forty-five years of service as a machinist.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Betty Lou Russell Blair; son-in-law, Bobby Head; brothers, Ed Blair and Emerson Blair; sister, Elmari Starnes.

The family will receive friends from 12:30-2:30 pm Saturday, November 7, 2015 at Oak Hill Funeral & Cremation Services. A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 2:30 pm in the J. Wayne Hamilton Memorial Chapel with Dr. Phil Hoskins officiating.

A Graveside Service will follow in Oak Hill Memorial Park in the Garden of Sermon On The Mount.

Serving as pallbearers, Mickey Sykes, Ralph Dorton, Jeremy Dorton, Brian Sykes, Randy Hammond and Steven Linkous.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Preston Place II Alzheimers Resource Center, 2303 North John B. Dennis Highway, Kingsport, TN 37660. Attention, Sharon Durnin.

Wallace Hampton Carter was born in Eccles, WV on May 4, 1934 in a coal mining community. He was the first son of Elisha Carter and Goldie Boyd Carter. Wallace was a typical southern boy, hunting, fishing and enjoying the wild mountains of West Virginia. In High School, Wallace played football and basketball. He met the love of his life, Annette Farmer, and they recently celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary. After graduation, he enlisted in the US Navy where he rose to the rank of EM3-Electricians Mate. He served on the USS Laning and loved to tell stories of his days at the sea and on shore patrol.

After his honorable discharge from the Navy, he and Annette married and attended Concord College together. While in college, they were blessed with the birth of their son, Michael Elisha, and two years later, a daughter, Lynette. After graduation, the family moved to Newark, DE, where Rebecca was born. Wallace started teaching at Brandywine Jr. High School. He coached football at Elkton High while teaching at Elkton Middle. Wallace ended his teaching career at Cherry Hill Middle. He prided himself that he remembered each and every student throughout his 28 years in education.

Pop loved his church and all the people that he encountered. He had a great faith that God will provide for us in all things. He was willing to share whatever he had with those in need.

Wallace was preceded in death by Goldie, his mother; Elisha, his father; sister, JoAnn Heffrin of FL; and infant brother, Gerald.

Wallace is survived by his wife, Annette Farmer Carter; sister, Sharon Stevens of Cross Lanes, WV; three children: Michael and his wife Janice (Whann) of Newark, Lynette and Dr. John Phillips of Earleville, MD, and Rebecca Carter Boothe and husband, Terry of Newark; six grandchildren that he adored: Shelby Carter, Elisha Carter, Dalton Carter, Faith Nicole Boothe, Jaden Cole Boothe, and Slater Ian Phillips.

A visitation will be held from 9:30-11:00 AM on Friday, April 3, 2015 at Calvary Baptist Church, 215 E. Delaware Ave., Newark, DE 19711 followed by a service celebrating Wallace's life at 11:00 AM. Burial with military honors will be at the Delaware Veterans Cemetery, Bear, DE on Tuesday, April 7 at 11:00 am where all are invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Calvary Baptist Church.

Watson Carl Chambers, 84, of St. Albans passed away Aug. 15, 2014, at CAMC Memorial Hospital. He was born Sept. 16, 1929 in Matewan and was a son of Hatler C. and Hattie Stone Chambers. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda Chambers; and a son, Danny Chambers.

Watson was a retired insurance agent with Western Southern Life Insurance and a member of VFW #3466, a life member of North American Hunting Club, a member of American Legion Post #73 and was a Master Mason with Dunbar Lodge #159. He was also an avid bowler at Venture Lanes and was a Korean War veteran.

He is survived by his sons, Roger A. Chambers of St. Albans and Watson Chambers of Princeton; daughter, Sharon L. Jack of St. Albans; stepdaughter, Carol Moore; sister, Mary Jo Post of Cincinnati; grandchildren, Joshua Jack, Roger Chambers II, Christopher Chambers, Rachel Marie, Ben Moore, Carrie Casto, Samuel Moore, Nathaniel Chambers, Ashleigh Chambers and Andrea Harvey; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and his companion of 20 years, Nancy Blair; favorite cat, Snowflake and favorite dog, Pepper.

OBITUARY

FORK RIDGE, Va. Mr. Walter H. Boyd, age 75, passed away Thursday, January 1, 2004, in a Tazewell hospital following a lengthy illness. Born in Buchanan County, Va., he was the son of the late Charlie and Martha Sisk Boyd. He was a
retired coal miner. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean conflict and was a member of the John Ratliff Post 164 of the American Legion. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Deborah K. Boyd; and six brothers, Leonard Boyd, Titus Boyd, Dennis Boyd, Elmer Boyd, Delmer Boyd and Orland Boyd.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mable Arms Boyd; four daughters, Carol Absher and husband Larry of Cedar Bluff, Linda Cordill of Baptist Valley, Va., Freda Thomas and husband Don of Bluefield, W.Va., and Shirley Carroll and
husband Glenn of Springville, Va.; three sons, Joe Boyd and wife Diana of Shortt Gap, Va., James Boyd and wife Diane of Dandridge, Tenn., and Jerry Boyd and wife Debbie of Hedgeville, W.Va.; one sister, Loya Davis of Shortt Gap, Va.,; one brother, Otis Boyd of Woster, Ohio; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Sunday, January 4, 2004, at Singleton Funeral Service Chapel in Cedar Bluff, with Rev. Jimmy Richardson officiating. Burial will follow in the Boyd Family Cemetery in Buchanan County,
Va. John Ratliff Post 164 will conduct military graveside rites. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Wilbur Newell Fitzgerald, 83, husband of Emma Marie (Eakin) Fitzgerald, died Monday, February 7, 2011, in Augusta Health, Fishersville.

He was born May 31, 1927 in Montebello, a son of the late Golden and Ruth (Layton) Fitzgerald.

Mr. Fitzgerald was a veteran of the U. S. Navy having served during World War II.

Prior to retirement, he was employed by Crompton with 31 years of service.

He was a member of Greenville Baptist Church and Steeles Tavern VFW Post 8279.

In addition to his wife, family members include Donald Ray Fitzgerald of Fairfield; two daughters, Carol Yvonne St. Clair of Fairfield and Connie Marie Groah of Steeles Tavern; seven sisters, Sibyl Coyner, Bertha McClung, Eva Hamilton, Margie (Jane) Houser, Doris (Gin) Sweet, Betty Thacker, and Rebecca (Jodie) Truxell; fifteen grandchildren; and twenty-two great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Terry Scott Fitzgerald; four brothers, Alton Fitzgerald, Wallace Fitzgerald, Ernest Ross Fitzgerald, and Lewis Elvin Fitzgerald; and a granddaughter, Chantel Marie Groah.

A funeral service will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Friday,February 11,2011,in Greenville Baptist Church by the Rev. Marshall Braylo. Burial will follow in Augusta Memorial Park. Graveside rites will be conducted by Steeles Tavern VFW Post 8279.

Active pallbearers will be his eight grandsons.

At the family's request, there will be no public viewing.

OBITUARY

William Burke Fletcher, Sr., 77 of Mount Carmel, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday May 10,2011 in the comfort of his home.

He was born in Buchanan County, Virginia and had lived in the Big Moccasin area of Scott County, VA before moving to Mount Carmel in 1963. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in Korea. Burke was a retired supervisor of the Hawkins County Press following 38 years of service, where he was a big supporter of Kingswood School for Children. He was a member of West View Missionary Baptist Church, a chaplain of Raceway Ministries and an ordained deacon.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bailey and Velvie McGlothlin Fletcher; brother, G. B. Fletcher; mother and father-in-law, Craig and Tina Owens.

Burke is survived by his wife of 54 years, Shirley Owens Fletcher of the home; daughters, Sharon Rose Roberts and husband Chris of Church Hill, Tammy Womack and husband Mike of Thompson Station, TN; sons, Bill Fletcher and fiance Ruby Cortner of Nashville and Mike Fletcher of Lebanon, VA; grandchildren, William Fletcher, Marshall Fletcher, Daniel Roberts, Angela Roberts, Dusty Fletcher and wife Liza Ferguson Fletcher, Gracie Fletcher, Sam Womack and Marley Womack; great-grandson, Brody Fletcher; mothers of grandchildren, Linda Fletcher, Tammy Dorton and Kathy Fletcher; sister, Catherine Ford and husband Sam of Fall

The family received friends from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, May 13,2011 at Carter Trent Funeral Home, 1115 Hwy 11W, Church Hill, TN. A funeral service was held at 7:00 p.m. in the Carter Trent Funeral Home chapel, Church Hill, TN, with Pastor Mike Stout and Rev. Darrell Fletcher officiating. Music was provided by members of West View Missionary Baptist Church.

A military graveside service was held at 11:00 a.m. Friday at Church Hill Memory Gardens with the Hawkins County Color Guard and the TN National Guard conducting the rites. Pallbearers were grandsons and sons-in-law. Honorary pallbearers were Harry Morgan and workers in Raceway Ministries.

OBITUARY

The News Virginian, Waynesboro, VA; 12 March 2012

William Sterrett Swecker, 86, of Stuarts Draft, passed away on Saturday, March 10, 2012, at Shenandoah House.

He was born on March 15, 1925, in Blue Grass, the son of the late Jennings Judy and Maria Tate (Sterrett) Swecker.

Mr. Swecker was a member and ordained elder of Finley Memorial Presbyterian Church. He served in the United States Navy during World War II from 1943 until 1946, and was quartermaster of a LST that landed on Omaha Beach, D-Day, June 6, 1944. Additionally, Mr. Swecker reenlisted and served during the Korean Conflict from 1951 until 1953.

He was a graduate of Blue Grass High School and received a BS in animal husbandry from Virginia Tech. He formerly owned and operated Shenandoah Insurance Agency in Stuarts Draft.

Mr. Swecker is survived by his wife, Ann Stuart (McClure) Swecker, who he married on January 2, 1954; daughter, Mary Tate Swecker of Monterey; son, William S. Swecker Jr. of Blacksburg; two sisters, Betty Ann Abbott of Bedford and Mary Judy Riddick of Franklin; two brothers, George R. Swecker of Sunnyside Retirement Home in Harrisonburg, and James L. Swecker of Monterey; as well as a number of nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Frances Celia Crown; and his brother, Robert T. Swecker. A memorial service will be conducted 11 a.m., Saturday, March 31, 2012, at Finley Memorial Presbyterian Church with the Reverend Don LaRue officiating. The family will receive friends at the church following the memorial service.

A private inurnment will be held in Blue Grass Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Finley Memorial Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 256, Stuarts Draft, VA 24477 or Augusta Health Hospice of the Shenandoah, P.O. Box 215, Fishersville, VA 22939. Obaugh Funeral Home in McDowell is handling the arrangements.

KIRK, JR., ALVIN MOSLEY "AL" Age 76 of Vestavia Hills, went to the Lord on Saturday, October 20, 2012. He is preceded in death by his parents, Alvin Mosley Kirk, Sr. and Cecil Pitts Kirk.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years Nancy Fox Kirk, son Christopher Alan Kirk (Christina), and daughter Roberta Kirk Willard (Robert) as well as his sister Cecile Kirk Dodds. He is also survived by seven grandchildren: Christopher and Fox Kirk, Sam, Matt, and Alex Willard, and Madeline Kirk and Alana Bottsford; as well as several nieces and one nephew.

He was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Ascension in Vestavia Hills. Al grew up in Homewood but lived most of his adult life in Vestavia Hills. He attended Shades Valley High School. He began his collegiate studies at the University of Alabama but ultimately graduated from Auburn University with a degree in Engineering. He served in the Air National Guard and was stationed in Europe during the Berlin Crisis.

He was Vice President of Hillhouse Company; President of Kirk Racing and Elite Enterprises; and served as President of J.B. Kirk Association. He was active in many civic organizations throughout the years. He loved serving as a Christian Children's Leader at Bible Study Fellowship (BSF). Al was a loving husband and devoted father, grandfather, brother, and uncle. He will be terribly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Memorial Service will be held Thursday, October 25, 2012 at Episcopal Church of the Ascension in Vestavia Hills at 2:00 p.m. Reception following at the Church. ARCHDALE - Beda Gray Lewallen, 83, of Ridgeview Drive, died Saturday, Dec. 7, 2002, at High Point Regional Hospital.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Pine Grove Baptist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Davis Owens officiating. Burial will follow in Marlboro Friends Meeting Cemetery.

She was a native of Randolph County, a member of Serco Club and the widow of Bertie Lawrence Lewallen.

Surviving are daughters, Dolores Marshall of Sophia, Linda Watts of High Point and Caroline Owens of Lacey, Wash.; brothers, Orville Gray and Richard Gray, both of Archdale; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale, 7-8:30 p.m. Friday.
