OBITUARY
Rev. Ralph Shelba Horton was born May 26, 1935, in Swords Creek, Virginia. He was the son of the late Rev. Grat and Chorilda Horton. He went home to glory December, 19th, 2013 being 78 years of age.
Rev. Ralph Horton was the Senior Pastor of the Richlands Tabernacle since 1971. He gave his life to serving his Lord spreading the Gospel to any who would hear. He will be missed by a host of family and friends.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his daughter, Debra Elaine Horton Roberts. He was also preceded in death by one sister, Thelma Horton Osborne and one brother, Christopher Aaron "Mack" Horton.
Those who remain to carry on his spirit are His loving wife of 58 years, Doris Boyd Horton of Richlands, VA; Daughter, Dana Horton Walls and husband Randall of Richlands, VA; son-in-law, Rev. Gary Michael Roberts of Cedar Bluff, VA; his sisters Mozell Horton Cordle of Richlands, VA, Naomi Horton Ray of Richlands, VA, Patricia Horton Jeanelle and husband Danny of Pounding Mill, VA, Sharon Roberts of Richlands, VA; his brothers Don Horton and wife Betty of Richlands, VA, Rev. David Horton and wife Brenda of Cedar Bluff, VA, Rev. James Horton and wife Greta of Richlands, VA, Rev. Phillip Horton and wife Carolyn of Richlands, VA; his five grandchildren Rev. Entombment will follow at the Greenhills Memory Gardens in Claypool Hill, Virginia. Pallbearers will be Rev. Adam Cordle, Rev. Billy Gillespie, Rev. Brett Houston, Rev. Dale Keene, Rev. Steve Kiser, Rev. Tim Lester, Rev. Johnny Rex Ward and Rev. Stuart Cole. Honorary pallbearers will be the men of the Richlands Tabernacle Church.

Ray Coleman Nicely of Rt. 1, Strasburg, died Tuesday, Sept. 8, 1992, at a Charlottesville hospital. He was 58. He was born in Rockbridge County Nov. 6, 1933, the son of the late Alva Agee Nicely and Mary Scott Hayes Nicely. He was married to Bettie C. Nicely of Fairfield.
Mr. Nicely was an orchard employee with C. L. Robertson in Winchester and a member of the Moose Lodge in Strasburg and of the AARP.
Surviving in addition to his wife are four sons, Billy R. Nicely of Fairfield, Jeffrey S. Nicely of Woodstock, Joseph C. Nicely of Edinburg and Richard E. Nicely of Maurertown; three daughters, Sandra S. Alexander of Woodstock, Melissa A. Hanes of Fairfield, and Mary R. Pruitt of North Wilkensboro, N.C.; two brothers, James E. Nicely of Salisbury, Md., and Alva J: Nicely of Harrisonburg; two sisters, Francis Keller of Sante, Calif., and Mary Jane Duncanson of Terra Alta, W.Va.; and 14 grandchildren.
The Rev. Gene A. Knicely will conduct the funeral Thursday, Sept. 10, 1992, at 2 p.m. at the Fairfield Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow in the Fairfield Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Fairfield Fire Department.

OBITUARY

REID S. PARRAMORE, 70, of 217 S. Ogle Ave., Lancaster Village, Elsmere, died Saturday of pneumonia in Riverside Extended Care Pavilion, Wilmington.
Mr. Parramore was an environmental engineer for various firms, retiring in May after 43 years at Philadelphia Navy Ship Yard. He designed a valve of environmental purposes that was patented in the 1980's.
He was a member of Elsmere Presbyterian Church.
An Army veteran of World War II, he served in the Philippines, Haiti and New Guinea and fought with Gen. Douglas MacArthur's troops in the 4025th Signal Service Group. He attended Rhode Island State College Officers Training School.
He received a master's degree from Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, and a bachelor's from University of Virginia.
He enjoyed fishing, baseball and home improvement projects.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Virginia S. Parramore; two daughters, Kay P. White of Abington, Va., and Mary P. Marioni of Middletown; two brothers, Thomas Custis of Lakeland, Fla., and James William of Selbyville; a sister, Rebecca Andeline Marsh, of Onancock, Va.; three grandchildren and a great-granddaughter.
Family and friends may call from 7 to 9 tonight in Krien-Griffith Funeral Home, 1400 Kirkwood Highway, Elsmere. A service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Elsmere Presbyterian Church, New Road and Ohio, Avenue, Elsmere.

ROBERT INGLES PARKINS 60, who was in charge of mechanical services at the National Dry Cleaning Institute where he had worked since the 1970's died of cancer Jan. 25 at Shady Grove Adventist Hospital. He lived in Gaithersburg.
Mr. Parkins was born in Dickerson. He served with the Army in World War II, participating in the invasions of Normandy and Salerno. After returning from the war, he worked on the family farm in Montgomery County until the late 1950's, then operated earth-moving and landscaping business in the county, before joining the institute. He was a member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Poolesville.

OBITUARY
Robert Edward "Bob" Owens, 81, of Corbin, KY, went home to be with the Lord on January 27, 2011. He was surrounded by family members at the time of his departure. He was born September 3, 1929, at Verda, KY, in Harlan County.
He attended Evarts High School where he played football and was inducted into their sports Hall of Fame in 1994. He was a member of the Hugh Harris Masonic Lodge and received his 50-year membership pen in 2001. He was a member of the Oleika Shrine Temple in Lexington, KY, and had the distinction of being named a Kentucky Colonel by the Honorable Wallace Wilkinson, former governor of Kentucky. Robert was an avid Kentucky Wildcat fan and followed both the football and basketball games for years. He was a former employee of Mack's Supermarkets, Inc., of Harlan County, where he worked for 41 years as a manager first, and then as a supervisor for the corporation. Robert loved a good joke and would tell them to anyone who would listen.
He was a member of Central Baptist Church where he served as secretary/treasurer from 2001 ? 2005 for the Lowell Cornelius Sunday School class. He was also active in the Golden Fifties group and served first as assistant director for three years, and then as director for three years. He was also a member of the Golden Fifties Drama Club and had been in several of their productions.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Henry R. Owens and Clara Baker Owens, and his brother, James C. Owens. He is survived by his wife, Peggy Robbins Owens of Corbin, KY; two daughters: Darlene (Dean) Cole of Kendall, NY, and Robin (Michael) Osborne, of Corbin, KY: three grandsons: David D'Amico, Rochester, NY, Devin Osborne, London, KY, and Matthew Osborne, Corbin, KY; one granddaughter: Cindy Schott, Brockport, NY; three great-granddaughters and two great-grandsons; two sisters: Henrietta Allen of Clayton, NC, and Ginger Smith of Tavares, FL, plus several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, January 31, 2011, at Central Baptist Church in Corbin, KY, with Rev. Ron Green officiating. Visitation will also be at the church from noon until 2 p.m. Monday. Interment will follow in Resthaven Cemetery in Corbin, KY. Pallbearers will be family members and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Lowell Cornelius Sunday School class and the Band of Brothers Prayer Circle.

Robert A. "Bob" Stepp, age 76, formerly of 618 Third Avenue, Coralville, died Friday, December 10, 2004 at Solon Nursing Care Center.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 15, 2004, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City with Roger Fisher officiating. Burial with Military Honors will be at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Coralville. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established in Bob's memory. Robert A. Stepp was born November 28th, 1928, in West Branch, Iowa the son of Josiah and Pearl (Reid) Stepp. He graduated in 1946 from West Branch High School. Bob served as a Corporal in the Korea War from February 16, 1951 to November 15, 1952 with the Co. K 7th Infantry Regt. Bob was honored with The Purple Heart, he also was awarded the Korean Service Medal with 2 Bronze Camps Stars, the United States Service Medal, and the Combat Infantry Badge while serving in the U. S. Army during the Korean Conflict.
Bob married Phyllis Jean Dohrer of Iowa City on December 15, 1952 in Kahoka, Missouri. In 1956, the couple moved to Coralville from West Liberty, where they resided and raised their family of seven children for 47 years.
Bob was employed at Iowa-Illinois Gas & Electric Company for 34 years, now Mid-American Energy and retired in 1990. For 27 years, he and his wife also owned and operated Trade Specialties, a small business selling and installing gas grills.
Bob was a Boy Scout Leader for many years with his older sons. He enjoyed the outdoors; fishing, and hunting and yearly would take his family camping to Northern Minnesota. He was well known for his strong work ethic and his ability to fix or build most anything. He was a dedicated husband, father, friend, and neighbor who was willing to take that extra step to help others. One of his pride and joys was showing off his picture of his 1947 Indian motorcycle; which many people admired. He enjoyed relaying stories of the days he rode his motorcycle around the countryside in his youth. Bob was a fan of Iowa football, basketball and enjoyed watching them play each season. He also was a Chicago Cubs fans and was known to watch them on a regular basis.
His family includes four sons and three daughters; James and Catherine Stepp of West Des Moines, David Stepp and Julie Tangen of North Liberty, Diane and Don Carter, Carole Stepp and Bill Orner of Mountain View, CA, Richard Stepp of Coralville, Linda and Fouad Salim Safsaf of North Liberty; and Robert Stepp of Coralville; 12 grandchildren, Robert, Trisha, and Ryan Stepp, Jeremy, Joshua and Bethany Carter, Emma, Josef and Phillip Orner, Sabrina, Karima, and Sara Safsaf; two sisters, Dorothy Anderson of Oakland, IL, and Shirley and Jack Crouch of Lampe, MO; one sister-in-law Marlene Humble of Iowa City, and two brothers-in-law Robert and Jackie Dohrer of Encinitas, CA, and George and Cam Dohrer of Iowa City.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis on August 14th of 1999, and a sister, Harriett in infancy.

OBITUARY
Roy Lee Quillen, age 77, of Gate City, VA passed away on Sunday, April 20, 2014, at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
Born in Gate City, VA on December 27, 1936, he was a son of the late Charles Cefus Quillen and Evelyn Grace Blair Quillen. He was also preceded in death by his brother J.B. Quillen.
Mr. Quillen retired from AT&T after more than 20 years of service. He was a veteran of the US Army and was of the Methodist Faith.
He is survived by two grandsons Tommy Rainey, Las Vegas, NV and Roy Rainey, Denver, CO; two great-granddaughters Samantha Rainey and Ashley Rainey Las Vegas, NV; one sister Clarice Steadman and husband Fred Church Hill, TN; two brothers Paul Quillen and wife Rita, Hiltons, VA and Larry Quillen and wife Kathy, Gate City, VA and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, April 22, 2014 from 5:00 to 7:00PM at Colonial Funeral Home, Weber City, VA and anytime at the residence of Roy Lee Quillen.
Funeral service will follow at 7:00PM with Elder Bill Tignor and Dr. Gene Miller officiating
Graveside services will be held Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at 11:00AM in the Strong Cemetery, Gate City VA. by American Legion Post #3/265 and Virginia National Guard. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at Colonial Funeral Home no later than 10:00AM to go in procession.

OBITUARY
Ruth Bowling Chambers, 82 of North Tazewell, VA died Tuesday, September 22, 2015 at Carilion Tazewell Community Hospital. Born December 6, 1932 at Witten Valley in Tazewell, VA she was a daughter of the late James Higginbotham Bowling and Mary Ethel Dills Bowling. She was a member of the Adria Community Church. Ruth was a senior caregiver and loved her work dearly. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James C. Chambers; eight sisters, Eva Hall, Alice Harris, Eleanor Covington, Ethel Brewster, Frances Turner, Gladys Elliott, Dorothy Bowling, and Lillie Vance Bowling; three brothers, Edward, James, and Ralph Bowling. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews including Harrison "Buddy" Flanagin and Susan Griffith who were Ruth?s caregivers; sisters in law, Bobbie Bowling of Marion, VA and Pat Bowling of Hyattsville, MD; several great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 PM Thursday, September 24, 2015 at Peery & St. Clair Funeral Home in Tazewell, VA with The Reverend Don Elswick officiating. Burial will follow at Grandview Memory Gardens in Bluefield, VA. OBITUARY
Sallie Katherine Mullins Stone, 87, of Providence, NC died Tuesday, December 27, 2011 in Roman Eagle Memorial Home.
Born In Buchannan County, VA on July 8, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Mack V. Mullins and Marjorie McGlothlin Mullins. She was married to John C. Stone, Sr., who survives. She was a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church and was a homemaker. She had lived most of her life in the Danville area and in Providence since 1975.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by 2 sons: John C. "J.C." Stone and his wife Ruby of Danville, Douglas Emerson Stone, also of Danville; 5 daughters: Ruby Myers of Providence, Marjorie Kennedy and her husband Phil of Abingdon, VA, Margaret Hammock and her husband Roy of Danville, Mary Alice Mayberry and her husband Jerry, Sr. of Danville, and Sheila Wilkerson of Danville; 16 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by 1 son, Woody E. Mullins, Sr, three brothers, William Lewis Mullins, Mack V. Mullins, and George R. Mullins, 4 sisters, Stella Mullins, Edith Mullins, Virginia Cox, and Myrtle Horn, 1 son-in-law, James V. "Pee Wee" Wilkerson, 1 granddaughter and 2 great-grandsons.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 31, 2011 at 2 p.m. in the Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Alton Bartee officiating. Interment will follow in Schoolfield Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday, December 30, 2011 from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home. At other times, they will be at 367 Easy Street, Providence, NC.
