Barbara was a resident of Westerville for over 30 years. She was born in Gary, WV in 1932 to Thelma (Francisco) and Walter J. Kearns and was the youngest of six children. She graduated Bluefield HS in 1950 and earned her RN degree from St. Mary's School of Nursing in 1953. She retired from Mt. Carmel West Hospital to become a dedicated mother and homemaker for her family. Barbara was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Harry Fischer (2007). She is survived by her four children, Joe Fischer, Ann Gerbec (Ian), Paul Fischer, and Amy Albu (John); grandchildren, Chris Fischer, Steven Fischer, Cody Gordon, Melanie Cox, Zach Gordon, Karley Gordon-Fischer; and two great grandsons, Ayden and Owen Fischer. She is also survived by two sisters, Kathryn Kirkwood and Peggy Harman; and brother-in-law Jerry (and Barbara) Fischer; as well as many special cousins, nieces, nephews, godchildren and friends. She truly cherished her family and her friends. She was active in her church community through the years and volunteered her time to help those in need that the church assisted. Her gentle nature, generous character, genuine friendliness and wonderful sense of humor will be missed tremendously. A visitation will be held at MORELAND FUNERAL HOME, 55 E. Schrock Rd, Westerville, OH on Thursday, September 12, 2013 from 6-8 p.m. A funeral mass will be held at St. Elizabeth's Church, 6077 Sharon Woods Blvd, Columbus, OH on Friday (September 13) at 11 a.m. Rev. The facility's original name was the Virginia State Colony for Epileptics and Feebleminded, and during the 1920's was the center for the eugenics movement and force sterilizations. In the 1950's the facility embraced the national movement of training for persons having intellectual disabilities, and the name was changed to the Lynchburg Training Center. The center also had a large operational farm, providing food for the center and employment for the residents. In 1972 the facility was reorganized into seven divisions based on function: Pediatrics, Independent Living, Severely Retarded and Infirm, Intensive Social Rehabilitation, Psychiatric, Ambulatory and Hospital (Medical-Surgical). Overcrowding was a continuous problem with residents ranging in age from 3 to 83, and were in the severe to profound range of mental/intellectual impairments. Many also had severe physical disabilities. No doubt Betty had a cognitive disability of some sort. We have no idea when she was admitted to the facility. Since her father died in 1947, when she was a child, and her mother died in 1966, she most likely was placed there either before or after her mother's death. I wonder if the overcrowding led to her intestinal difficulties lead to her death because it wasn't diagnosed in time.	Phelps, Betty Blane (I33059)

The funeral service with full military honors will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 27, 2013 at Bethany United Methodist Church with Rev. Donnie Bannister and Rev. Thomas Moon officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Brian Bohler, John David Flanigan, Cody Davis, Bruce Turner, Gary Mackie, Jarrod Mackie, Tim Partridge, Rocky Branch Men's Golf Association, and the Men's Congregation of Bethany United Methodist Church. Mr. Bannister was the son of the late Herbert W. Bannister and the late Beulah Pack Bannister of Raysal, WV. He was a 1955 graduate of Del Barton High School in West Virginia and a 1974 graduate of the University of Maryland where he majored in United States History. Mr. Bannister retired after 21 years in the United States Army serving his country honorably with two tours of duty in Vietnam. He attained the rank of 1st Sergeant and was awarded the Bronze Star and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm. Bill retired after 20 years at Mayfair Mills and later as owner of Lincoln Garden Center. He was a member of Rocky Branch Golf Club and attended Bethany United Methodist Church where he taught the Adult Sunday School Class. Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Bryan Bannister; children, Joey Bannister of Chicago IL., David O'Neal and wife, Anna of North Augusta, S.C., Marty Bannister and wife, Amy of Dublin, OH, Bryan Guin and wife, Kathy of Tignall, GA., and Travis Guin and wife, April of Tignall; grandchildren, Kristen Crenshaw, Kayley Bannister, Lillie and Emily O'Neal, Corey, Amy and Sophie Bannister, Will, Taylor and Holden Guin; and great grandchild, Caden Crenshaw. Mr. Bannister was preceded in death by his first wife, Lillie "Lil" Parker Bannister and a son, Terry Alan Bannister. He was a 1952 graduate of Lebanon High School and attended Bluefield College where he received an associate degree in Pre- Agriculture. He was a 1957 graduate of Virginia Tech earning his Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Husbandry. He worked as a field representative for Pet Milk Company and Dairy Farmers of America for 38 years. After retirement, he enjoyed farming which was his true passion. He attended Fellowship Chapel in Bristol, VA where he was a member of the Berean Sunday School Class. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by two sisters, Gaye Easterly and Faye VanDyke. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Barbara Gose Owens; two daughters, Terry Garrison of Abingdon, VA and Karen Owens of Kernersville, NC; four grandsons, Matthew Durrett and wife Amanda of Kernersville, NC, Will Garrison of Abingdon, VA, Christopher Durrett of Belews Creek, NC and Travis Garrison of Abingdon, VA; one niece, Kittye Owens and husband Charles of Bristol, VA and one brother-in-law, Sam VanDyke of Abingdon, VA. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the doctors and staff at UVA Hospital and Bristol Regional Medical Center, Dr. Perrie Ryan and staff at Blue Ridge Medical and a special thanks to Connie Limburg for her wonderful care. He received certification in electronics from Osbourn High School, Manassas, in 1954. He was a licensed minister with credentials from Berean Bible College, Potomac District Council, Assemblies of God in 1979. He was pastor for a decade at Lighthouse Assembly of God near Catharpin, where he designed and built the new wing for the church. The Rev. McGlothlin was a talented musician and loved to sing gospel music and especially bluegrass. He was a master electrician and worked as a sub-contractor for GRC Roofing and Tom's Truck Sales. He was also preceded in death by one son, Timothy Neal McGlothlin; and one sister, Joann Gooden.
