Newton, 84, husband of the late Nellie (Hartman) Newton, and a resident of 8C Rockdale Park, died Wednesday at J.B. Thomas Hospital, following a long illness. He was born in Peabody, the son of the late Harry and Mary (Campion) Newton, and lived here all his life. He was a member of the Peabody Jordon Lodge of Masons and also a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1920 to 1923 and he was a power plant engineer for 50 years, retiring 19 years ago. Surviving him are two daughters, Priscilla Winsor of Peabody adn Phyllis Cosman of Middleton; two brothers, Alton and Ralph Newton of Florida; a sister, Lillian Atkinson of Peabody; four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral servies will be held on Saturday from Conway Funeral Home 12 Chestnut St., Peabody at 9:15 a.m., followed by services at Saint Paul's Episcopal Church. Calling hours are Friday 2 to 4 and 7and 9 p.m. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody.
