"Sam O. Tate, a merchant of Monticello, Ky., was born in Pulaski County, Ky., January 29, 1864. He is the second in a family of ten children born to Stephen H. and Minerva J. (Lewis) Tate, viz: William H., Sam O., John W., Gilson P., Flonnie, Anna, Ellen, Hattie, Mallie and Bonnie. Stephen Tate, also a native of Pulaski County, has for many years been a prominent merchant in that county, and has also engaged in agricultural pursuits. He is a son of John Tate, who was born in Virginia. Minerva J. (Lewis) Tate, was born in Pulaski County, Ky., a daughter of John Lewis. Sam O. Tate received his education at the common schools and at Lexington, Ky. He was in his father's store occasionally as a clerk until 1883 when he was steadily employed there for two years. In 1885 he went to Monticello, Wayne County, Ky., and opened a general store, where he has since been actively engaged in business. He is a member of the Baptist Church, of the Knights of Honor, and has taken one degree in Masonry. Politically he is a Republican."
