OBITUARY

Retired Sheriff of Fluvanna County, Ralph Browning Johnson, 84, died Saturday, January 20, 2007, at the Laurels of Charlottesville.
He was born December 4, 1922, to William Broadus Johnson and Mary Emma Browning Johnson.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Ida Cornelia Melton Johnson; and his sister, Mary Eloise Johnson Ryalls. He is also survived by four children, Carole Wood and her husband, Bernie, Glenn Johnson and his wife, Mary Ann, Lois Woodson and her husband, Buddy, and Calvin Johnson and his wife, Debbie; 10 grandchildren, Amy Johnson, Troy Johnson and his wife, Jes, David Rhoades and his wife, Stephanie, Amanda Collins, April Woodson, Dale Woodson, Amber Johnson, Crystal Williams and her husband, Dave, Lauren Black and Taylor Black.; and seven great -grandchildren.
He served as a surgical technician with the United States Army 819th Tank Destroyer Battalion during World War II. He was active in the V.F.W. Post #8169 in Scottsville, the Fluvanna Ruritan Club and was a Deacon and life-long member of Fluvanna Baptist Church.
Family night will be from 6 until 8 p.m. Tuesday, January 23, 2007, at Thacker Brothers Funeral Home in Scottsville.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 24, 2007, at Fluvanna Baptist Church with burial at the church cemetery. The Reverend Alan Acree and the Reverend Buddy Woodson will officiate.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the Fluvanna Baptist Church Building Fund, 7454 West River Road, Scottsville, VA 24590 or the Scottsville Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 550, Scottsville, VA 24590.
