      Mrs. Martha Jones Sterrett Beery died at her home in Monterey, Saturday, Aug. 21.

      Twice married she was the widow of Robet Sterrett who died in 1938, and the Rev. Dewitt A. Beery, who died in 1961.
      Mrs. Beery was a former resident of Staunton and Roanoke. She was born May 31, 1889 in Monterey, a daughter of Charles Pinckey Jones and Martha Wilson Jones.

      Survivors include two sons, Lt. Col. John Douglas Sterrett, Harrisburg, Pa. and Robert Sterrett of Fort Defience; four grandchildren, Sarah Sanders, Martha Lee, Robert McChesney and David Gordon Sterrett; six stepchildren; a sister, Mrs. George P. McCoy, of Monterey; four sister-in-law, Miss. Nannie K. Sterrett and Mrs. S. Tate Sterrett, both of Staunton, Mrs. R.C. Jones of Monterey and Mrs. T. R. Jones of Inglewood, Calif. and a number of nieces and nephews.

      Mrs. Beery was a graduate of Southern Seminary and Junior College at Buena Vista and Randolph-Macon Woman's College, Lynchburg. She was a member of Monterey Methodist Church and was active in its work serving on the official board, teaching in the Sunday School, and in local and distant work of the Woman's Society of Christian Service. During the years she resided in Roanoke she was equally active in the Hunting Court Methodist Church.

      Services were held Tuesday, Aug. 24 at 4 p.m. form the Monterey Methodist Church, conducted by her pastor, the Rev. Kenneth D. Amstutz, the Rev. Samuel A. Stanley, Jr. of St. Johns Methodist Church in Staunton and the Rev. A. Hinkle Shumate. Interment was in Monterey Cemetery with Obaugh Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
      Active pallbearers were her nephews, Edwin B. Jones, George O. Wilson, J. Frank Wilson, Hamill D. Jones, S. Willson Sterrett, Van Sterrett and J. Conway Baker.
      Honorary pallbearers were Jacob H. Heveber, John H. Stephenson, Carl Gutshall, Dixie Shumate, S. L. Rexrode, Robert F. Green, Frank Terry, John J. Whitelaw, Cecil V. Kennedy, W. H. Dudley, J.
