James A. Poage was a member of the Valverde Camp 1419 of Confederate Veterans from 1901-1906 in Roswell, NM.
He mustered into service at Camp Stonewall Jackson, Dallas Co. TX at the age of 39.
He died at the age of 90, with members of UDC, UCV and Chaves County Bar Assocation taking part in the funeral service. He was buried beside his wife who died 13 years prior. Judge Poage left no children.
Judge Poage was an attorney and had practiced law longer than any other attorney in Roswell. He was a graduate of
VA School of Law.
