      Henry "Ray" Nelson, 82, of Middletown, died Sunday, September 10, 2006, at his residence. He was born in Collinsville, Oklahoma on December 3, 1923 to parents John R. and Edith (Huhn) Nelson.

      Ray worked as a brick layer in the construction business for more than 40 years, retiring in 1980. He was an Army veteran of World War II, with the 393rd Infantry Regiment, and earned a Bronze Star. He was a member of the American Legion Post 218, the VFW in Kettering, and Eagles Aerie in Eaton. He was also a member of the Gratis United Methodist Church. Ray was an avid dancer, singer, and train whistle blower. He had been an avid golfer, winning the Senior tournament in Middletown in 1986.

      Mr. Nelson is survived by wife, Virginia (Armstrong) Nelson of Middletown; two sons, Henry R. (Sandy) Nelson Jr. of Kettering and Donald R. (Linda) Nelson of Kokomo, IN; stepchildren, Henry G. (Ann) Barker of Middletown, James R. (Carol) Barker of Winchester, KY, Miles (Penny) Back of Cincinnati, Everett (Betty) Back of Middletown, David Back of Middletown, Gary Back of Middletown, Jeff (Martha) Back of Yulee, FL, Judy E. (George) Lacey of Camden, Vickie Taylor of Boomer, NC, Virginia Martin of Lawrenceburg, IN, and Kimberli (Rob) Kindred of Franklin; his sister, Helen Green of Portland, OR; brother, Billy Jo (June) Nelson of Benson, AZ; 4 grandchildren; 25 step grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; and 19 step great grandchildren.

      Ray was preceded in death by his first wife, Lois G. (Ware) Nelson; second wife, Ruby (Havens) Barker Nelson; his parents; six brothers, Harold, Edward, Orville, Argyle, Bobby Gene, & Tommy; and one sister, Delyte Lancaster.

      Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, September 13, 2006 at 1:00 PM at Wilson-Schramm-Spaulding Funeral Home, 3805 Roosevelt Blvd. (at Bonita Dr.), with Reverend Gary Wood officiating. Visitation will be prior to the service from 11:00 - 1:00 pm. Interment will be at Dayton Memorial Park.
