The 1200 family wagon train who traveled down the middle fork of the Williamette River above Oakridge were forced to leave their wagons and walked out and through Eugene without even realizing it.

Wally was a Veteran of the U.S. Army during the Korean War Era and attained the rank of Sergeant. Wally is survived by his children, Jeffery and Andrew Walden, both of Prineville, Oregon; Rhonda Oakes of Tennessee; Lisa; Michael and his wife, Jenny Walden of Sutherlin; Denna and her husband, Lee Holm of Sutherlin; Rhonda and her husband, Dave Van Dolah of Dillard, Oregon; two sisters and spouses, Doris and Lester Hill of Eugene, Oregon; Maxine and Bill Berry of Springfield, Oregon; sixteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He is also survived by his former wife and good friend, Deloris Walden of Oakland, Oregon, two brothers, George and Bud Walden and one sister, Jean Freeman preceded him in death.
