He was the husband of Velma C. Bland; father of Janet B. Blackwell (Jon), and the late Janice B. Wilson; grandfather of Kimberly F. Griffith, Bryan L. Griffith; brother of Waddy G. Bland (Brenda) and Ann B. Hurt. Also surviving are Soso, his faithful and trusted friend. Mr. Bland was a member of Tuckahoe Lodge No. 347, AF & AM, for 39 years. The family will receive friends at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., today from 4 to 8 p.m. A funeral service will be conducted Tuesday at the funeral home at 1:30 p.m. Interment will be in Washington Memorial Park. Memorial contributions can be made to the Grace Hospital Alumnae Association Scholarship Fund, Key Creasy, 4115 Rockhill Rd., Mechanicsville, Va. 23111.
