	From what I understand, the family added an s to his last name, to separate the family from any connection Sheriff Don Chafin of Logan County who was a fierce opponent of unionization and received hundreds of thousands of dollars from coal mine operators in return for his violent suppression of the United Mine Workers union. Harry Chaffins went from the farm to law inforcement, beginnig as a constable in Thacker, Mingo Co. WV and eventually was the police chief of Welch, WV for a number of years.
