Note: Lammas Day is August 1, the festival of the wheat harvest. It was customary to bring to church a loaf made from the new crop, and the loaf was blessed.

The Yorkshire Archaelogical Society Recorde Series vol VIII for 1889 includes reference to: Page 133 for Michaelmas term 1599 Alvered Birkbye, gent and Christopher Mitchell as plaintiffs with Alvared Whittakers as Defociant ref a Messuage with lands in Chickynley and Page 172 Michaelmas term 1601 Henry Foxcrofte as plaintiff with Thomas Whitakers and Mary his wife, Alvared Whitakers and Mary his wife as Defociant ref a Cottage with lands in Chickynley Vol 43 for 1915 has on page 16: (Easter Term 1604) Henry Foxcroft quer: Thos Whittakers, Alvery Whittakers and Mary his wife, (others). Messuage and lands in Chickinley, Sothill, Churwell and Morley. Administration was granted on 1 Oct 1618 to Mary Whititkers, his relict.
