  Notes	Her nickname was Pattie, and was named for her maternal aunt, Martha Vincent Walden, who was also called Pat. She worked with the Children's Home Society in Richmond for adoption of orphans. The organization began in 1900 when it was chartered by the Virginia General Assembly and still provides services today. During the early years, children were brought to a receiving home in Richmond pending placement with a suitable adoptive family. By 1930, Children's Home Society of Virginia was part of the national trend of placing children in individual foster homes rather than in orphanages.
