Tate, 83, Sunnyside community, Kingsport, died Thursday March 19, 1998 following a brief illness. A native of Wise County, VA, he lived most of his life in the Sunnyside community. He was a WWII Verteran having served four years in the US Marines, attaining the rank of Sergeant. He was the operator of Midway Service and Groceries for 25 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Laura Gilly Tate. Surviving are his wife, Mildred Tate, of the home; two sons and a daughter in law, Mr. and Mrs. Keigh (Brenda) Tate, and Rickey Tate, all of Kingsport; a grandson, Keith 'Chip' Tate, Kingsport; a sister, Ida Fraley, Big Stone Gap, VA; two brothers, Creed Tate and Fleet Tate of Big Stone; and several nieces and nephews. Services will be conducted in the East Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mike Owens officiating. Interment will follow in East Lawn Memorial Park.
