      CLINTON -- Mr. Dallas Holoman , Jr. of 213 Forest Trail Retirement Center, formerly of Raleigh, died in Sampson Regional Medical Center Tuesday June 10, 2008.

      Funeral service with Masonic rites will be held 3:00 p.m. Monday, June 16, 2008 at Royal-Hall Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Tim Register and Dr. Dalton Mayo officiating. Entombment will be beside his wife in Montlawn Memorial Park in Raleigh.

      Born in Richmond, VA on May 11, 1908, Mr. Holoman was the son of the late Dallas and Edna Lockwood Holoman . His 100th birthday was celebrated with family and friends from North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. He attended the Richmond Public Schools, Wake Forest College, and graduated from N.C. State College.

      He married Bessie Gray Gill of Raleigh on August 15, 1930. They were happily and lovingly married for 65 years prior to her death on November 25, 1995. He worked for the New York Telephone Company and AT&T in New York City from 1929 until 1943. He began work at Boylan Pearce, a department store in Raleigh in 1943, serving in many capacities and retiring as President and General Manager when the business was sold in 1980.

      He was a member of the Raleigh Kiwanis Club for 40 years, from 1943 to 1983. He was a member of a number of business organizations in Raleigh, in which he held offices and from which he received honors. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Raleigh since 1925 and had served there as Sunday School Teacher and as a member of the board of Deacons. He was an active Mason for many years. He joined Hiram Lodge No. 40, in Raleigh in 1951 and was elected an honorary member of Hiram Lodge No. 98 in Clinton in 1996. He served as Master of Hiram Lodge No. 40 in 1959. He was active in both York Rite Bodies and Scottish Rite Bodies of Raleigh and has been honored by both Bodies. He joined the Order of DeMolay in 1924 and has been a member ever since.

      He is survived by two daughters, Laura Murphy and husband, Charles of Tomahawk and Carolyn Smith and husband, Mark of Sumter, SC; a brother, Kern Holoman of Raleigh; six grandchildren, Ginny Herring and husband, Burke, Bunny Paderick and husband, Rick, Patricia Horrell and husband, Greg, Stuart Smith and wife, Terry, Adrienne Young and husband, Sam and Laura Williams and husband, Tommy; 10 grandchildren, Robert Herring and wife, Jennifer, Laura Beth Herring, Carolyn Herring, Tripp Paderick, Murphy Paderick, Jason Horrell, Arran Horrell, Austin Young, Parker Young and J.D. Williams; many nieces and nephews.

      He was preceded in death by two brothers, Chreston Holoman and Boyce Holoman .

      The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

      In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Hiram Lodge No. 98, P.O. Box 916, Clinton, NC 28329 or to the Masonic Home for Children, 600 College St., Oxford, NC 27565.

      Dallas Holoman, Sr purchased the Boylan-Pearce Department Store in the 1930\'s. The management of the store was later turned over to his four sons. Boylan-Pearce was originally located at 216 Fayetteville St. It later moved to Cameron Village where it is was the first anchor store. The Olivia Rainey library is now located there.
